this could be the solution I need for a Thirtieth/fortieth anniversary macintosh, I'm planning on building a sleeper PC with a mini PC with a 9 inch touch screen inside a macintosh classic chassis
When I did this, I built a 3D printed spring loaded button assembly that fit into the PDS port in the case — pressing that would move a 3D printed piece that presses the Power Button on the Mac mini. It should not have worked as well as it does.
My problem was I wanted to use the slot loading cd/dvd (I used the older, original Mac mini with slot drive for this conversion). So I pushed the mini all the way to the back, like yours, but with the slot drive facing the back instead of the power button. This allowed me to cut a slot with a dremel tool and access the drive from the back of the Mac. The switchbot solved the “how do I turn this silly thing on” with the power button buried in the middle of the machine and inaccessible.
