I have noticed what I think is a bug in System 7.0.1. In file requestors, many folders are missing their icons (SimpleText in these screenshots, but Word also shows this). I vaguely remember this irritating me 30 years ago, but wanted to check if others have this issue.

I have confirmed with FileBuddy that no custom icons are defined, I have rebuilt the desktop file, and that the folders with missing icons are not in Finder categories. This issue is not present browsing the same folders in a file requestor under System 6.0.8, nor in 7.5.3 - only with 7.0.1. Is this normal? Does anyone know what the cause might be?

Not sure if this is related, but I also noticed that Word 5.1a is unable to bring up a file requestor when 32bit addressing is enabled in 7.0.1 (exits with a type 1 error). It's fine in 7.5.3 with it enabled though, and in 7.0.1 in 24bit addressing. This issue persists even when extensions are disabled (holding shift on boot). EDIT - figured out this Word crash - it's caused by the Word 97-98 import converter. Removed that and it's fine, but this folder icon thing is still annoying.

It's possible that maybe your System 7.0.1 install is somehow corrupted. If this is an SE or Classic, I'd almost leave it at System 6.0.8. If an SE/30 or Classic II, then maybe install 7.1 instead of 7.0.1. Seems like 7.1 was a little more reliable and should show the correct icons in the open/save dialog boxes under various applications, without needing the extra memory that System 7.5.x needs.

It's an SE/30 so I flip between 6.0.8 for games, and 7.0.1 for apps. I find 7.5.3 is already so much slower to start.

But I have unpacked the OpenRaSCSI pre-made build of 7.0.1 and that exhibits this issue - so I don't think my install is corrupted. Does this bug not manifest for you? As I mentioned I do vaguely recall this bug from when I had my own Mac Classic.
