About two years ago, I grabbed a second TRS-80 Model III, but this one has 48K and both of the 5.25" drives, so a lot more feature rich than my 16K variant.
I gave everything a good clean and had no reason to suspect anything else to be wrong; upon my first attempt to boot the machine up, the screen attempted to flicker to life and then there was magic smoke. I haven't looked into greater detail yet as to what it could be, but I'm curious if anyone knows where I should start.
The machine itself still appears to boot, as the drives will do their self-test every time I power it on. I'd like to have TWO working TRS-80s, but if I can't restore the display, I may take all of the good stuff from the 48K unit and swap it into the 16K and then keep the other bits as spares.
