For Marchintosh I posted about my hobby project called Altivec Intelligence in the Software Development forum. But at the time I did not know about The Lab section. So anyway, I thought I would post the first fruits of this hobby project here:

It's Vienna 3.0.8 Backported for Tiger. Vienna is a great open source RSS reader for Mac that includes syncing with RSS services like The Old Reader. For me, RSS is the superpower of the web that allows retro computers to "browse" the web in that they take websites stories and put them into a consistent and easy to render format. So I already had a great RSS reader that can sync with my Old Reader account for my iPhone 5 running iOS 6 called Reeder. Also on my 2017 Retina MacBook running Mojave, I also use Reeder. And on my modern Macs I use NetNewsWire again with The Old Reader sync.

However, I could not find an RSS reader for Leopard or Tiger that syncs with The Old Reader... For example Vienna exists for Tiger and Leopard but that version does not sync with any services.

Enter Vienna Backport. This version of Vienna is back ported to work on Tiger. It also uses modern libCURL and OpenSSH for networking, so it can sync feeds that require TLS 1.2 like The Verge. This is extremely alpha, so use at your own risk. I am not currently syncing it with my main Old Reader account, instead it's a test account. But it's been running for a few days on a Tiger VM and so far it has not caused catastrophic data loss. But like Vienna itself, it's open source and can be compiled without even using a Mac, it's all Docker based.

That said, if you don't want to compile it yourself, I attached a build if you want to try. This build runs on Tiger and Leopard for PPC and Intel. This post is already getting long, but the GitHub repo below has a longer readme with known issues and a todo list. Please explore and let me know if you are interested and if you use it.
