I would like to do create a peripheral to talk RS422 with a Mac Classic II. I don't have any vintage serial cables to chop up, so I am looking to purchase an 8-way Mini-DIN plug. Does anybody have experience with this?

CUI MD-80 looks like the correct part to me. What do you think?

This page has pinout information which I will be following.

You might also check (IIRC) Phoenix Connectors. I don't have the link available at the moment and may be mis-remembering the name, but Google will probably get you there.

Later Edit: This posting https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/macintosh-connector-part-numbers.135/

lists the Mini-DIN 8 connector for the motherboard. Following the Mouser link for that connector and then scrolling to the bottom, one finds "Customers also bought" list which includes this: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Kycon/KMDLAX-8P?qs=fzYiJZYPXT7i6KuJypu5sA==
