Had a working 6100. I recapped and ISO cleaned. Now will not boot. I am probing what I believe is the egret chip and get signal all around except nothing on pin 7. A schematic would help or someone knowing where that pin goes. I have double checked all the caps I changed and am not finding any problem there.

Thanks. Not sure the boards are that similar. The pin goes to a via and I have not been able to trace yet.

Cleaned up my recap job and found one very close to traces. Picture attached. I cleaned up and coated the traces with lacquer. Now running again.
I have installed a BlueSCSI and for whatever reason it thinks it is ID 1. I set up the image as HD00.hda. It is working but I do not understand why it will not recognize as ID 0. Any thoughts.
I also did a Snooper RAM test and it indicates a RAM fail. Is it possible that Snooper 2.0 is not compatible with the PCC chip 601? Computer boots at chime and all the RAM appears to be. present. Snooper also ID'd the chip s a 68020 accelerated. That is what makes me think Snooper is not compatible.

the battery bombed one came with a very corroded Newer Tech upgrade card. The heat sink was really bad and I removed it. I really cleaned the card and have just tried it in the unbombed machine. No luck recognizing it though. It would be destroyed for all I know. Do I need drivers for the card to get it recognized.? It is in the PDS slot. It is either ruined or I don't know how to install it properly. Both possiblities are very likely.

The boards are very similar - The 7100 and 8100 are based on the 6100. The 6100 is close to the prototype for the whole family and late on the team were asked to add a medium and higher end model. At their core, they're all very similar with the main difference being in the memory and nubus circuits.

A weird result of this is that because of how the RAM circuits work, the 6100 can actually work with more RAM, as long as you can find appropriate 128MB SIMMs.

You'll need the heatsink fitted, its marginal in the 6100 case even with a heatsink. But another thing, you need to remove the cache card from the 6100 for most accelerator cards to work. The Cache conflicts with the upgrade and the upgrade provides faster L2 cache anyway. There are two similar slots, one has the ROM in it and one has the cache - they're actually interchangeable, so make sure you remove the correct one.

Gottcha. Great feedback. I know I need the heat sink. It was like a sacrificial anode and I think protected the card itself. I think I can make what's left of it useful if I can remove one of the screws that is really stuck in the card. I just want to see if I can get the computer to recognize the card. I found some software on MG that I think may do it. Specifically for the PDS version. I think the 6100 upgrade card was very specific. Anyway, thank you. I learn a lot here. The experiments are more than half the fun.

If it isn't booting it isn't because of drivers. Without the driver, a 6100 will just boot from its built in processor.

Try cleaning the edge contacts and the PDS slot with contact cleaner spray.

Oh, it is booting but just not recognizing the card. I have also applied Deoxit in all the slots. Have not been able to get the software on a floppy yet. I also assume it needs to be running System 8 too. I have some final assembly work to do including mounting the floppy cable into the front plastic which I totally forgot and getting the CD going. all else looks really good. Once it is done I will experiment with the upgrade card. What a fun little guy this is!

Ah right, sure, if it boots to desktop that is a good sign, the card wont do anything without a driver installed.

You don't need Mac OS 8. I've run G3 upgrades in System 7.1.2 on my 6100 (although that is being silly, and a later OS would be better, perhaps 7.6.1 or 8.1 if you have enough RAM).
