Thanks edale, I have revised the firmware user guide to suggest using the scanner to format the card properly. I too have seen some strange behavior that seemed to resolve after formatting with the scanner.

What format (NTFS, ExFat, Fat32, etc) were they formatted under "Partition Magic"?

I remember seeing that before. It could be that you simply need to power it off after the successful firmware update, and power it back on to use it normally. Or if it's not that, please report on what size and format you're using for your SD card for capturing?

I think PEC pads are still okay for cleaning when applying FilmRenew or similar cleaner/lubricant and using the "fold, gentle pinch and wind" technique. On the scanner, I suspect the film was snagging fibers from the PEC-wrapped post when a splice in the film (press tape or overlapped segments...
