Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I can also report that several instances of my scans on a type C with 7.1.1 have frame jitter (frankly it happens more often than it doesn’t happen. Sometimes it’s significant, but sometimes very subtle and I have to look closely for it or compare to older scans of the same footage. Would...

Check that you have the film fed under the 4 black tabs in the scan path. Depending on how/where the film is coming out, you may need to adjust the tension on the metal press plates by slightly screwing or unscrewing them (the plates are spring loaded). You may also consider not using the...

Done. See link to the guide in my signature. I've also added in the complete version history for reference on when certain changes took place.

I've taken the opportunity to revise the User Guide to 0Dan0's Custom Firmware to include some Known Issues. Will try to keep these updated as progress is made. I've also revised the Version Release notes section. Also, @eyeidea, while I think it would be great for someone to put together a...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

With a Model C on v7.1.1, I started scanning a 7" reel of Super8 film yesterday. Started off going well for about 7 minutes of resulting footage (with no issues on the resulting file). And then I had to stop the capture to re-frame the image. I restarted the capture and it automatically ended...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I found success with using Pec Pads and Film Guard solution to gently clean dust/dirt from the film before scanning, while also lubricating it. Some film didn’t need it as much as others (those that had been screened more often). I did use Pec 12, but for cleaning the film path on the scanner...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

@0dan0 I tested the 7.1.1 firmware on my Model C scanner and a 5" reel scanned really well. Really great results with my 8mm scan (50' roll, no issues so far). I'm developing an "Operating Guide" that incorporates your latest changes that I'll post here a little later; will edit as needed to...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

So excited to see ongoing development from 0dan0, with feedback from others here. I wish I had the time to commit toward testing these improvements. Hoping that in December I can re-scan the family film collection so my parents, aunts, uncles, and other family can see this material in glorious...

Yes, so far I’ve found good frame rate conversion results with the re-time Speed Warp (better) setting in Resolve. I denoise before that, but add grain/texture after so that the texture is unique to each of the 24fps. Has anyone compared Speed Warp to TVAI’s 24p upscale option?

I really like the reduce compression feature of Topaz Video AI. Based on this, I finally have taken a look at it's trial version. I have and like Neat Video NR, but I may splurge on TVAI to help reduce compression artifacting. Even with 0Dan0's work in improving and optimizing the bitrate via...

I'm finally starting some test scans utilizing the v6.6 Manual User Controlled White Balance setting to determine the best setting for my old films (8mm from 1950s & 1960s. I have a couple of observations that relate to @omega's statement above about +2 not being enough: With 3 brief tests (WB...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I have had such skipping and sounds on film that shrunk over the decades and doesn't align well with the advancing mechanism. Not sure that it is a defect in the Kodak.
