Reverse Engineering the Macintosh IIcx Logicboard

Much progress has been made since my last post! The board was (almost) fully assembled ready for testing at the weekend: (and yes, that board is totally coated in flux so every little bit of crud on my desk sticks to it which is lovely..... this board really needs some quality time in the...

    Macintosh LC III - FPU

There should also be a dot on the logicboard on one side of the FPU slot to denote pin 1 of the slot, this corresponds with a dot engraved on one side of the FPU denoting pin 1 of the chip Even though it looks like it should be possible you shouldn't actually be able to insert the FPU in the...

What chips can I use to program new ROMs for a Colo(u)r Classic or Colo(u)r Classic II?

27C400 should be correct for the CC ISTR you need to byteswap the image before programming it, but it's been a while since I have done it so I might be wrong there..... If you have at leas tone working ROM chip you can just dump it as a 27C400 to find out

    Macintosh LC Schematics - V1.1A

Corrected a issue with OE on the RAM page not being connected to anything (it should have been grounded on all chips), Changed the symbol for the 78L08 at UA10 to show all connected ground pins as well as some other minor component labelling changes

Issue with ROMinator II and SE/30 (bad contact)

Fair enough! If they are the chips I think they are i'm impressed you found them at all (I tried and couldn't. Ended up pulling them from 72pin simms given to me by a 68kmla member)

Issue with ROMinator II and SE/30 (bad contact)

Whats with blanking out the part numbers on the chips? Have you found a super secret source of 16mx4 DRAM chips no one else knows about :ROFLMAO:

Practicing desoldering larger chips - MBP 17" 2.33

Haha :) Funny thing is I actually started with a electric griddle as my first preheater! On a more serious note, the T-8280 (originally made by Puhui, but cheaper clones are now available) is very popular amongst hobbyists, I have one and it preforms very well

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC III Logicboard

The board layout, Gerbers, Copper layout and board scans are now available! https://github.com/max234252/Macintosh_LCIII-Reloaded As with the LCI board this is provided under a non-commercial license however if you provide repair services and want to provide these boards (Or want to use them...

    Just a PSA...

It's easy to fall into this trap, the main reason there are less horror stories is probably just because they are newer :) I have two Apple Tanzina boards out of a couple of clones on my desk ATM and both had batteries leak, Lots or rotted traces on both, both had a bunch of bad data buffers...

Practicing desoldering larger chips - MBP 17" 2.33

Nicely done :) I still have my old Atten 858D+ (The original station those are all clones of) and use it daily, I actually prefer to use it over my ~£550 Hakko station it heats up so much more quickly and 99% of the time 700W is ample (Also it is ~10 years old and is still on it's original...

    Reversed Polarity on factory-installed LC3 caps at C22 ?

That's one option, In fact one of the 3 repro boards I built up had a ceramic's installed for all the 47uf's and it works just fine :)

    Reversed Polarity on factory-installed LC3 caps at C22 ?

I'm mixed on this, Given they have been installed 'the wrong way round' from factory for 30 years and it hasn't caused a issue I'm kind of tempted to say leave them the way apple installed them, but on the other hand I do remember seeing a well known member of 68kmla saying he had seen tants...

    Macintosh connector part numbers

Any luck with that one? (I'm almost ready to send the IIcx boards to JLC and might have mangled the old socket getting it out to board....)

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh IIcx Logicboard

It's time for another one! The LC II went much quicker than expected so it's time to start on a board I have been looking at for a while - the IIcx The IIcx in question was actually purchased as a repair project until I noticed the board had layer marks, and to my surprise it was a 4 layer...
