Mac Crate 40MB External Hard Drive info and repair

With SCSI, there's where the terminator should go, and sometimes where it needs to go to make everything work. They are often not the same...

Mac SE Restoration Project -- advice wanted!

That would be sweet, but I can't find a reference anywhere, and don't want to just start buying random tips until I find something that works. I guess I could try to find the manufacturer of the one I have and see if they have any leads.

Mac SE Restoration Project -- advice wanted!

I have this exact same tool, and it does help a lot. Not so much on logic boards, where the leads are very small, but on analog boards and power supplies which have healthy amounts of solder, it works great. An ATX(?) power supply extender cable can work for the SE to keep the logic board out...

    New piece - neon art

The eBay seller is in_future_tech https://www.ebay.com/usr/in_future_tech/ I messaged them first and told them what I wanted - and forwarded them the original picture from Reddit - and they quoted me a price, and told me how long it would take. Once I agreed, they made a "custom sign" item...

    New piece - neon art

After seeing this on Reddit, I ordered one from a seller on eBay. I thought it was a decent price, and good communication and quick shipping from the seller. They do other custom neon as well.

    VCF Midwest September, 10-11 2022

I think there will be a healthy Minnesota contingent there. Might be time to organize VCF North - I've been thinking about it for a while...

I Just Got This Apple III Plus Bundle

The Apple /// was Jobsian in that it had no fan(s). So - the metal (aluminum?) case was supposed to be a heatsink for the whole machine. That didn't work out so well; thermal issues would cause components to expand/contract and cause connectivity issues, hence the "pick it up and drop it" fix...

    Vectrex

That would be very cool, but I think the regular "stand-up" arcade version would have to do :) I don't think the Mrs. would go for the sit-down version!

In 2019(?) a guy was walking around with a floppy-based Mavica. He'd take a picture of you and your display, and then pop out the disk and give it to you. Pretty cool!

    Vectrex

Thanks! I do have the Vectrex version - What I'd really like is the full stand-up arcade machine from back in the day :)

    PocketPro 25S SCSI Enclosures

Amen, brother. I tried to source one or more for ages for my Sun Voyager, and then got lucky in finding an ACARD adapter for IDE laptop drives that saved my bacon. At some point, Apple silently used these in Powerbooks as the supply of SCSI laptop drives dried up. I now always check old...

    Vectrex

I have one that I got from a good friend on trade. It also came with a "multi-cart" that has a whole bunch of games on it. I needed it specifically to play the Star Trek game! If I could find the arcade version of that... :) Mine had a horrible buzz in the sound - which is a known problem -...

What are your vintage grail items?

The NeXT mouse that came with the Cubes and the early slabs are not ADB. The ADB mice are distinct - round with the two buttons "sticking out" of the top... The ADB NeXT mouse won't work with the Cube. Maybe(?) with a Turbo Cube if you could find one; I don't know if those supported ADB like...

    Lead times on mouser

I've had an order with Mouser from last November where 1 cap is still on backorder. I think they say September at this point. I long ago found another place to get the cap, but I'm keeping this order alive since I'm curious when they'll finally send it...

    Not only vintage Computers

Yes - my 82 RX-7 is a "quick" car, but 40 years of auto technology means that a modern stock turbo 4 cyl is probably as fast or faster off the line. The ricer guys in their fart-can tuner Hondas and Acuras are even faster, though they all admire the RX a lot. There's a lot of tuner type stuff...

    Not only vintage Computers

Even though I'm a Minnesotan, I can support you in this! My sister lived in the Cincinnati area and I'm a big fan of Cincinnati chili. Wash it down with a Little Kings Cream Ale, and that's heaven right there! :)

AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles (a short review)

You can chain through the ADB ports to the device, so you don't _have_ to use the USB power port unless you've got a lot of stuff plugged into your ADB chain and there's not enough power. I just use the USB port since I have the power adapters and cables, and don't necessarily have an ADB...

What is the most dependable, long last compact mac?

I would also go with the SE. The biggest problem with them is the internal SCSI hard drives are most always failed. In these days of BlueSCSI/SCSI2SD/RASCSI that's not as hard to overcome as trying to find a working SCSI drive.
