    Soldering temperature

I also do 350 on my FX888. I can't remember what solder brand I've got ATM. I've been using chisel tips, but I'm slowly coming around to bevel tips for general use after teaching myself drag soldering with the bevel. Related, I've recently become a convert to the "push and twist" method of cap...

Good source for SE/30 in Portland, Oregon?

Not so much for a specific machine, but let your friends/family know you want "old computers". Tell them that whatever Mom & Dad or better Grandma and Grampa have hanging around in the attic, you are interested. Same with your co-workers. I've have more days when I'd walk into my cube and there...

Good source for SE/30 in Portland, Oregon?

There is a Free Geek in Portland; might be worth checking them out and see if they process/sell vintage machines. Vintage Macs are big for us at Free Geek Twin Cities :-)

    Period-accurate benchmarking tools?

I have Speedometer handy, and while it's basic it tells me what I want to know. Plus, I figure if I use the same tool all over, the results should be fairly consistent within that universe of data.

In tech stuff, what's a little thing that just...bothers you more than it should?

When you call someplace like your bank or credit card company, and the automated system has you say your name, account number, what your issue is, etc. Then when you get to the operator, the first things they ask you are your name, your account number, and what your issue is, etc.

Finally watched the whole thing! :-) A couple thoughts to maybe help clarify some things. Lisa _is_ slow! Two reasons are the CPU is throttled a bit down to 5Mhz on most boards. Not the blazing 8Mhz of the Mac! Also, Mac had the advantage of having a lot of Toolbox code in ROM. Lisa was made...

    How do you pronounce “LIDO?”

I'm with @fehervaria. As evidence I reference the aformentiond "Lido Shuffle" by Boz Scaggs, as well as on "The Love Boat", shuffleboard was always announced as being on the "lee doe" deck, not the "liddo" deck or "lie doe" deck :) I realize I'm dating myself with this, but whatever...

Source for brightness pot for SE analog board?

If you find a good solution - or if anyone has otherwise munged up boards and can spare them - I could use a couple as well! @polpo should get first dibs, though!

My favorite thing about Lisa is the saving of the machine state. There's no "shutdown" command. Right in mid document, you just hit the power button, and the state of your desktop is saved and the machine shuts off. When you power up the next time, you get right back to the same desktop - any...

Lisa Frame for 2nd board set swapping

I may have one; can't remember if I passed it on to a friend or not. If I do, I'll let you know. Feel free to bug me about it if you don't hear in a couple days :)
