Personal Computer World COVER — April 1987

I made this upscale of the magazine cover using cleanest and largest image I could find on the net, hoping to use my upscaled edition in a recent video, but I never did. Spent so much time on it I decided to upload it here as a Resource. However, if any of you own a real copy of that magazine...

Color LCD Retrofit Kit for SE/30 by ZigZagJoe

Just finished installing the LCD Retrofit Kit by @zigzagjoe and I'm excited to report it brings tack-sharp 640x480 INTERNAL color to your SE/30. Not an IPS display, but viewing angles are just as good. Brightness is a shocking 900nits. Best part is, your SE/30 remains a vintage Mac. (Not a Mac...

That’s great to hear! Useful information too. But what did you mean when you said “sub-brightness”?

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

Wow. So, just to bring the average reader of this thread "up to speed" (he he)... As per what is written here, those super fast transfer rates reported by @Androda require a "SCSI card that supports Ultra SCSI (Fast20)." That means we can't just flash our BSv2 units with the latest firmware...

    SE/30 RTC issues

@Duke09 I have never had a bad RTC chip to confirm or deny the info you were told. I can only repeat what I said in my previous post about the testing you would need to do regardless of whether System 7 is sensitive to a working RTC.

    SE/30 RTC issues

My quick scan of this thread for the first time today suggests that @Duke09 is only "guessing" the RTC is bad based on advice given by others about how System 6 responds to a bad RTC versus System 7. But if the RTC is bad, it should be easy to test merely by putting in a good PRAM battery...

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

@billbucks That seems to me to be a reasonably good solution. In the worst case where the replacement chip doesn't solve your problem, you're not out too much money and you'd technically have some other spare parts too.

2009 iMac slot load CD into a Cube

My eyes are on this thread, Mark, because I too have a late 2009 27" iMac with internal Apple DVD drive and the drives in m G4 Cubes won't eject (even though they are good otherwise). So I look forward to hearing if it was a final solution for you, and want to hear how much work was involved...

    3D Printing & MacEffects Appreciation

They advertise a lot, whereas JLC hasn't done really any advertising that I've seen. Not only do I see PCBWay everywhere on YouTube, but they have approached me twice by email. Once was a couple years ago when I told them the MOQ of 5pcs was a bit hard to swallow for the average vintage...

Can se/30 flyback be replaced by a 157-026C flyback?

Wow. Those little guys have gotten nightmarishly expensive: https://www.ebay.com/itm/121655780759 $150 👀

Floppy drive Sony MP-F51W-23 upper head doesn't touch the disk

Physical size of SMD resistors varies by power handling. Even a 1/32W resistor should safely act as a pull-up in this case, I would assume, but that size would be very tiny. Nothing wrong with going higher wattage to get a larger body, if needed, however. And yes, regular resistors with leads...

For the sake of people who later find this thread, below is crystal clarity as to where TP1 is located on the bottom of the Color Classic's ANALOG BOARD (marked with red arrow)... Again, for clarity I have marked PP1 with a red arrow below... (I also marked PP7 with a green arrow.) As...

Radius Full Page Display for Macintosh 512ke/Plus - Cloning project possibilities?

Funny. It's been a long time since I had the external hooked up so I had forgotten about that. I rewatched my video again and I see that it is indeed possible... In other words, when you have an external display attached, the internet CRT looks blank (gray) only because there are no windows...

But the computer is working. If it was a blown component, I suspect it wouldn't ever work. And so, it could be the case of something over-heating, especially now that we are into the warmer months. What you really need is a thermal camera. Then you can leave the back case off and check...

Apple IIe card - oscillator damage

@wottle This bad boy gives you bragging rights... "My oscillator is more stable than yours!" 😛 I dare say there's not another IIe Card on the planet that has a TCXO on it. The cards use run-of-the-mill oscillators that aren't bad, and the card is designed to accommodate their tolerances...
