    Macintosh Portable horror story

Two thoughts on the LiFePO4. First, it might need time to charge up to full voltage. Second, your hybrid's battery level reporting opamps might be showing the wrong charge level. This happens with hybrids that have seen just about any level of capacitor fluid ingress, it gets into the...

    BlueSCSI stopped working

For the curious, the attached picture shows the damage to the transceiver chips (likely caused by 12v from the floppy port). I swapped out all the chips excluding the activity LED driver (this is more isolated, running from 3.3 via pico) and now it's working again. The pico itself is making a...

    BlueSCSI stopped working

This issue was discussed in Discord. Turns out that the BlueSCSI unit was accidentally partially plugged into the Floppy Drive port. Floppy drive ports provide a variety of voltages which are hazardous to BlueSCSI, such as 12v. It was probably damaged by the over-voltage. I'm going to take a...

Doesn't look different to me. As I said, I also recreated *this specific* screen cable.

Yes, I'll put together some more of those. What you have is the official backlit screen upgrade for the original portable. And lucky for you, I also recreated this screen flex cable. It's just not listed on my site because these are so rare. Pretty sure I have at least one more of these cables.

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

I do think most or all of the 1x0 series powerbooks will have that 50 pin internal connector. It's for SCSI target disk mode, so the Mac can dynamically assign the SCSI ID of the internal hard drive for use with an external system. These drives use jumpers there at the back to set the SCSI ID...

Resolved - Can't boot Mac Plus from BlueSCSI

Hello, Please see this wiki entry about the Mac Plus: https://github.com/BlueSCSI/BlueSCSI-v2/wiki/Compatibility#working-with-caveats The Plus and Mac Portable require a special "INI File" to be added to the SD card to make them work. Their SCSI implementation is just different enough that...

Interest Poll: Macintosh Portable RAM Cards

As mentioned in the product announcement thread, I've ordered parts for a run of 10 of these cards. As soon as they arrive (could take awhile), I'll do the production run.

Interest Poll: Macintosh Portable RAM Cards

I am in process of working on a 7 megabyte Macintosh Portable RAM Card. It works in my test Portable, and I've sent one off to be tested in a Backlit portable. For me it has booted System 6.0.8, passed the Snooper RAM test, and plays games like Tetris and Risk with no issues. Why 7 megabytes...

F4 BlueSCSI, a BlueSCSI Fork By Androda

You may be asking "Is F4 BlueSCSI abandoned?" after the announcement of BlueSCSI V2. This is the plan moving forward: Hardware sales have ended, but the designs will remain available for those that want to build one anyway If anyone wants to build and sell F4/F4Lite BlueSCSI designs, please...

Possibility of complete redesign and modern manufacture of LC-LC475 power supplies

Designs for these have been released here (Creative Commons Non-Commercial) : https://github.com/androda/PCBDesigns/tree/main/PowerSupplies They are currently badly documented because it's been so long since I looked at them. Both designs worked in both of the LCs I tested, LC II and III. The...

    BlueSCSI DB25 compatibility issues?

I believe the G3's standard internal hard drive and Zip drives are IDE, but the CDROM is SCSI. Yeah, this seems pretty odd in general. Given that it works on the 630 with and without an internal drive, I wonder if that internal CDROM on the g3 is SCSI but somehow termination is incorrect.

    BlueSCSI DB25 compatibility issues?

This is quite odd what you mention about the beige g3. That's my test system, and every assembled BlueSCSI I sell is checked on that machine. On the 630, does the DB25 unit work with and without the internal drive installed? Is there an internal drive installed in the beige g3? As for...

    BlueSCSI v2 on PB170

I am very curious what has been posted about the quality and safety of BlueSCSI. Don't keep up on or track every thread. But that user is correct, BlueSCSI V2 comes with a protection fuse such that if there's a hardware fault in either your Mac or on the BlueSCSI then it'll cut itself off from...

    Tunnel vision on PB170

I guess it depends on how common those other cables are, and how easily the connectors can be moved. Regardless of where the connectors come from, they have to be identical to the originals.

    Tunnel vision on PB170

Sorry for lack of response. For flex cables like these that have SMD connectors, it's a harder process. Need to identify identical replacements, as moving from old to new cable would be dicey.
