I'm getting slightly better resolution on those product images: (The PICT format they use is a little wonky/vintage... some stalwarts such as ImageMagick and GraphicConverter choke on them. Modern Photoshop reads them quite well, however.)

I've had the same idea (and even ordered an extension to try it out). It seems like a lot of the extenders terminate in a quite large, plastic-enclosed end that has to be broken down to be made usable on the rear modem port. I've had it on my list to disassemble my 140 to examine the dimensions...

Just a note that I was also getting these CRC errors on a 660av (not surprising given the 840av report). Have flashed the new firmware and will give the logfile a look in a few days!

Ah, turns out this blog post has a good writeup on use of Toast to create (nearly) forensic images. Looks like the "Disk Copy" option was introduced in 4.x, which is just one version newer than the 3.5.x branch I was one. Luckily 4 still runs on 68k so I'll give that a shot...

I will try that — and another idea I just had, what if I fill a disk with text on my Cat, image it using the Greaseweazle, and send the image to you? If you write it and successfully read it, that would suggest that our two drive are in alignment (at least for general-purpose data I guess.)
