    Color Classic VGA Woes

For the sake of people who later find this thread, below is crystal clarity as to where TP1 is located on the bottom of the Color Classic's ANALOG BOARD (marked with red arrow)... Again, for clarity I have marked PP1 with a red arrow below... (I also marked PP7 with a green arrow.) As...

Very interesting how it was designed for two types of CPUs. Neat!

Radius Full Page Display for Macintosh 512ke/Plus - Cloning project possibilities?

Funny. It's been a long time since I had the external hooked up so I had forgotten about that. I rewatched my video again and I see that it is indeed possible... In other words, when you have an external display attached, the internet CRT looks blank (gray) only because there are no windows...

    Color Classic VGA Woes

But the computer is working. If it was a blown component, I suspect it wouldn't ever work. And so, it could be the case of something over-heating, especially now that we are into the warmer months. What you really need is a thermal camera. Then you can leave the back case off and check...

Apple IIe card - oscillator damage

@wottle This bad boy gives you bragging rights... "My oscillator is more stable than yours!" 😛 I dare say there's not another IIe Card on the planet that has a TCXO on it. The cards use run-of-the-mill oscillators that aren't bad, and the card is designed to accommodate their tolerances...

Nick, I just wanted to say that I really like your Avatar. Simple, clean, and clearly describes what most of us love to do in this hobby. (y) Welcome to TinkerDifferent!

LCD Screen Inside Compact Mac Case

I recently bought the ZigZagJoe kit, in part because it looks fantastic, and in part because, like you, I always wanted to try color in an SE/30 but previously never found any of the posted projects to look that great. ZigZagJoe made a simply stunning kit though, and its a native 640x480...

    is this a 512ke?

It would be false or highly misleading to advertise what is clearly a 512K Mac as being "128K," especially because collectors who seek a 128K machine want a virgin machine, not upgraded. The presence of an 800K drive makes the "128K Mac" claim all the more bogus, as a true 128K machine will...

My Mac Plus Hyperdrive 20 recreation

OlePigeon kindly replied back to me saying he has the ability to dump the ROMs on his controller. But I hesitate to ask that of him because I don’t believe that would be particularly helpful to what’s being described in this thread.

    SPIISD V2 has been released

This is my follow-up look at @Kay K.M.Mods 's SPIISD v2 Smartport drive, with en emphasis on device usage and with numerous comparisons to the FloppyEMU. Many thanks to @Javmast3r for having updated his already excellent plastic case STL files!

My Mac Plus Hyperdrive 20 recreation

Bad news. OlePigeon replied back to say that his printed documentation doesn't mention the jumpers at all. :( He told me he speculated they might pertain to the Mac's ROM, but I pointed out to him the jumper's close proximity to the two ROM chips on the HyperDrive controller board. And beyond...

My Mac Plus Hyperdrive 20 recreation

Hi, Jeff. Thanks for your kind input, photos, and your question. @ESM-NL said the following in his opening post which answers your question... Separately from that... My persistence in sending OlePigeon multiple messages across various platforms worked. He sent me a PM to say he will pull...

My Mac Plus Hyperdrive 20 recreation

@ESM-NL The fact that your colleague or his friend stole your expensive Mac is both crazy and infuriating. I doubt having the serial number will help you track the culprit down now in 2025, but it's nice you still have it. Of course, you and I have been talking about those mysterious jumpers...

    Color Classic VGA Woes

@jibsaramnim I measured the Current Consumption of the LC575 motherboard to the PRAM battery to be 63µA @4.5V. Just FYI. Also, I would say it's a "related deviation" rather "off-topic." :) @Marconelly mentions having an LC575 board in his CC, and because those boards all have PRAM batteries...

Apple IIe card - oscillator damage

Because we are talking about 17.2MHz and lower XTALs, having a 100MHz scope is important because you want 5x the XTAL frequency on your scope where possible. And because the XTALs we're talking about are full-sized CANs (not the 2-pin kind), they are active and therefore can be tested rather...

    Color Classic VGA Woes

I currently use a triple LR44 solution in my Color Classic Mystic (using a cheap battery holder sold on Amazon). That lasts 75 days when unplugged from the wall or with the power switch at back turned off. The stock battery would have lasted much longer, possible 2-3 years, similar to how long...

    Passing of Bill Atkinson

I added IconBounce to Macintosh Garden here just now with credit to @slomacuser & @David Cook : https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/iconbounce It's on a bootable MFS 400K *.dsk image, with System 3.2. I confirmed it working in the 128K, 512Ke & MacPlus editions of Mini vMac.

    Color Classic VGA Woes

I really hate fiddling with batteries and PRAM, to be honest. Back in the day, prior to the internet, having the machine auto-connect and set the date and time wasn't possible. I get that. But having the mouse default to a super slow setting? Having the CRT of the CC default to a super dim...
