Most of Macintosh 128K's logic board was almost an ASIC!

More specifically, here's the exact excerpt from the link you provided... Unfortunately there were ‘low level’ problems with the design and the part never worked properly before the project was dropped as being too expensive and risky. There appears to be a huge disconnect between Andy's...

Most of Macintosh 128K's logic board was almost an ASIC!

Absolutely impossible to know. Andy Hertzfeld MIGHT know, but even though Andy was close to Jobs, it wasn't THAT close. It's unfortunate Burrell Smith suffers (suffered?) from schizophrenia, as he would be the man to ask that question. Steve was never driven by cost, so I cannot speculate...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

When the image is mounted by a FloppyEMU or BlueSCSI or MacSD (either as a Composite or hacked into a BlueSCSI-compatible form that will work as a regular drive image), the images are visible on the Macintosh Desktop initially, then vanish when you launch IIe Setup (which is normal), then I see...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

As I said, you would need to design a custom bracket (to be 3D printed) in order to mount the LC575's drive at the proper height inside the Color Classic in order to use it. It would then be usable, of course. I am not a 3D designer. I lack the skills to make such a bracket. Therefore, I...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

No because the physical height of the two drives is not the same. The one in the LC575 is the type with black plastic drive door, one would need to have a custom made mounting bracket in order to get that type to sit at the right height in the drive slot of the Color Classic.

Most of Macintosh 128K's logic board was almost an ASIC!

While digging up info on the LSI LOGIC chip used on the Apple IIe Card, I came across a book about LSI which provided some very interest historical info I had never read anywhere else. Amazing what could have been! One day Doug came in with a copy of EE Times. It had a photo of Steve Jobs and...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Well, I was hoping to start filming again this evening, but I ended up spending another several hours testing instead. Here are my new findings, which again break new ground as these details haven't been reported anywhere else... 1. I previously found that the older version 2.2.1 of the IIe...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

After discovering that ImageConverter doesn't work on my 800K *.po image, I broke down, went to the Dark Side, and installed WINE so I could give CiderPress a try. I converted it to DiskCopy 4.2, named it "Dazzle.img" and then double-clicked that in Basilisk II, but nothing happens. Not sure if...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Exactly! :) But I do wish to humbly thank Eric for the suggestion, as that app can help folks who prefer Windoze. (And yes, that's my deliberate and preferred spelling.) Sadly, it seems that ImageConverter doesn't work to convert .po files because it cannot even recognize/see them! Odd...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Thank you for the tip, Eric! It's interesting to see that CiderPress is a Windows-only app. We have some Windows machines at the office, but I am one of those rare Mac users who never purchased even a single Windows computer through the years. Yep, that's right... From my first use of the Mac...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Kay Koba and I were speaking last night. After I mentioned to him that 2.2.1 of the IIe Startup app resolved the problem, he reminded me of some subtle differences between the built-in floppy drive of the LC575 versus the Color Classic (CC). So even though I am still using the LC575...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

PROBLEM #1 (my opening post) is NOW SOLVED! After spending countless hours on this, the solution was simple, yet non-intuitive. I read that I am supposed to use v2.2.2d1 of the IIe Setup app for the LC575 motherboard, but when I tried older version 2.2.1 just now, it resolved the problem. I...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Just to clarify what I showed in my video, the IIe Card CAN indeed "communicate" with my CC's floppy disk drive. As I said, it can Read just fine. I can Rename anything on the disk just fine. I can even use Erase in AppleWorks to delete all files just fine. But I cannot Format. And I cannot...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

I never use Anti-virus on my vintage Macs. Here's my theme song. :-) I can only try to disable all Control Panels and Extensions other than the required ProDOS extension to see what happens. That will need to wait until this evening though. After countless hours of testing, my guess is...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

Yes, and you can see that "volume unmounting" occur in the video I included at the end of my opening post. I say "volume" because I have not partitioned any drive. I think the IIe environment views ProDOS Volumes & Partitions the same, but they are technically different things. I appreciate...

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

Yes, that is what I think I am seeing in your screen photos.

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

But in your first screen photo, I am not noticing anything being chopped off or truncated or pixel-distorted. It looks exactly like it should when the resolution is set to 560x384. If it was displaying in something other than 560x384 mode, I would expect some kind of distortion. But again, I...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

My second question is about something that is probably impossible, but perhaps some of you have some tricks I don't know. Let's say you don't have a BlueSCSI or FloppyEMU or MacSD, but you managed to get a ProDOS *.po disk image onto your vintage Mac. It's 800K in size. You format a real 800K...

    Apple IIe Card: Q&A

SOLVED! Solution here While working on my IIe Card video, I've run up against a number of things I cannot explain. We had a good discussion here recently, but I feel this needs its own thread with a more specific title, in the proper sub-forum (which is perhaps best suited here rather than in...

    Color Classic Resolution Switching

I cannot comment on the LC except to say that typically the Apple 12" RGB Display is used with them, and that display has a native resolution of 512x384. So it seems you have something other than the 12" display. Regardless, I'd love to see a photo of your display when the IIe Card is in the...
