    Schematics for PowerBook Duo model

I’d also like to know, I can add it to my complete Macintosh schematic archive: https://macdat.net/repair/apple_schematics.html

    PowerBook 3400 siren song

Indeed, that's why it sounds like a speaker - because a voice coil can be used as a primitive one.

    PowerBook 3400 siren song

It's a sound made by the hard drive's voice coil. Not sure if it's the heads trying to free themselves, or if it's a warning tone that something's wrong. It seems to be specific to IBM Travelstar drives whatever the case may be.

    PowerBook 3400 siren song

You mean the ambulance noises? Yeah the old travelstars do that if they get stuck with stiction and the likes.

    *Battery Gore Thread* NSFMacs

They can and will, it just seems to take a severe leak for damage to be caused. They're certainly better than the 1/2AAs, but they can't be trusted and still should be removed. I've heard multiple cases of people losing LC 575 boards to those batteries.

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

Very, very low with that method. If you're confident you won't damage anything, go ahead, but I'd try everything else first because taking components off is risky. Do you have a hot air station? I've seen a lot of corrosion cases. The only times you need to worry about corrosion hidden under...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

If the battery corrosion had made it to the RAM board then the rest of the machine's PCBs would be completely destroyed, that would take a catastrophic leak. I don't see any corrosion in the photos regardless. Battery corrosion doesn't just "jump around" - if the PCB by the battery contacts is...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

How have you confirmed the floppy drive working? Is the problem that you don't have a way to write boot disks? Memory module looks correct for this model. If it isn't working, it's very likely not a soldering problem. You can try, but I'd recommend just touching up all the solder joints rather...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

Sounds like you have a bad floppy drive and a bad memory module. I highly doubt resoldering everything would fix that - more likely a bad chip. What type of module is it?

CMOS Battery PSA - mid 90s-early 2000s laptops affected!

get 'er out! I've pulled two vartas in the past week - one out of a Samsung SENS 800, and another out of a ThinkPad 770ED. Both leaking (of course), neither damaged much. 770ED's connector sustained some damage, SENS 800's didn't. Both survived.

New Toy: Dell Latitude D630 (Windows 7 Pro)

If it gets above 80-90C under full load, that would be a bit on the hot side. Hard to say what's normal for a D630 since every laptop is different, but between 40-60C at idle is fairly normal I think?

New Toy: Dell Latitude D630 (Windows 7 Pro)

No specific cause, just a thing that happens sometimes with trackpoints. To be clear: The issue is that the mouse cursor drifts to the right? Try using the trackpoint stick and see how it behaves.

New Toy: Dell Latitude D630 (Windows 7 Pro)

trackpoint could have a drifting issue, or are your palms brushing the trackpad?

New Toy: Dell Latitude D630 (Windows 7 Pro)

8GB of DDR2 RAM is extremely expensive and W7 doesn't need it by any means to run well - 4GB is PLENTY. This is due to the fact that a 4GB DDR2 module is like $30, while 2x 2GB modules are WAY cheaper. 8GB is pretty much never worth it on a DDR2 system. W7 runs fine even on 2GB of RAM.

Here's the specs up on my website: https://macdat.net/pc/dell/latitude/d630_home.html Also - would you mind if I used the photos you posted on that page? I currently have none and would really appreciate it. I'll leave credit if you'd like.

Toshiba Satellite 480CDT with a bad case of acid reflux

Plenty of them are getting killed regardless though, that acid leeching up the cables can cause some serious damage. I hope you can get yours sorted out and fixed! Some are worse off than others - the Satellite Pro 400 through 435 are dropping like flies. They're not located directly on the...
