Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I guess when I hear someone say "never, ever, ever do" something, it makes me believe there is a flaw in the method and a high chance of failure, even when following the steps correctly. However, when you explain the perceived risk, it sounds like what you are saying is there is a risk that can...

"Platinum" PLA for Macs and Apple ][s

I'm in for a spool if it's reasonable total cost. How much is the base spool cost? So cost would be spool cost + (total shipping to US / number of people buying) + shipping from US location to individual?

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Out of curiosity, what is the concern with plastic wrap? I've had more problems with the creme drying on devices during the process without a wrap than using the wrap method. Other than doing it wrong (i.e. having air pockets or not wrapping completely), what is the risk of plastic wrap to...

M0110 keyboard no input on 512k

I had also tested the continuity of the cable, and from the contacts in the connection in the female jack to the boards and it seemed fine. I also tried to push back the wires inside the female jack to their original position (some of them had been pushed down and were siting further back than...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Basically, I just took an old storage bin my son had used for hydro-dipping (hence it looks terrible from the outside), lined the inside of the bin and the lid with heavy duty aluminum foil and reflective foil tape, the got a 50 foot spool of LEDs...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Yeah, I recently switched from using the sun to building a UV box where I have much better control over everything. I've had a few splotchy results because I think I left it too long in the hot sunlight and the peroxide dried or there were air bubbles formed under the plastic wrap. Since...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

So, I was able to find enough functioning floppies from my box of estate sale bargain bin floppies to cover the 3 disks needed for DOS 6.2.2, one for the Apple utilities, and 6 for Windows 3.1, and now I officially have a working dual boot System 8 / Win 3.1 machine! Pics of the floppy...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Progress update! I removed the CPU, took off the heat sink, applied new thermal compound, and reseated the CPU (it was properly aligned when I removed it, and appeared to be fully seated). Tried one more time to boot and IT WORKED! I get video out. I was able to create a DOS boot disk from...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Sadly, no. I'm in the Charlotte, NC area. I'll check around locally and see if I can find one. When I looked, the CPU seemed seated properly, but I might try to pop it out and re-seat it. Really appreciate all the advice!

M0110 keyboard no input on 512k

Recently picked up a 512k from Facebook marketplace as a non-booting machine. After pickup, quickly removed the battery (which had started leaking and actually corroded the battery holder metal tab to the point where it broke off when I removed the battery. Anyway, I inspected the inside of...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Unfortunately, my new SIMM arrived and I was still unable to get it past the "PC is booting" phase. No video out on the PC side at all. I did try with the version of the PC Compatibility software, running on System 7.6 and still no luck. I also added a PRAM battery temporarily to make sure...

Identifying components on color classic analog board

Any other source for those resistors? Unfortunately, it appears only bulk orders of 100, at $10 each would mean I'd spend $990 dollars to have 99 spares. I'm just looking for a like-for-like replacement, and mine is similarly burnt up.

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Still no luck getting it to get past booting. I swapped a SIMM from the main board to see if it would change the behavior. Other than making the Mac OS side of things not boot with all extensions on, the behavior was the same. No video out. I also tried hooking the video out to two different...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

OK, I got System 7.5.3 and 8.1 installed on a bluescsi and installed PC compatibility 1.6.4 on each. I created a new DOS disk image file and mapped it to the C drive. So I believe the PC Setup app can tell there's a DOS compatibility card in the computer. The problem is when I switch to the...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

Nice. Thanks for the information. I definitely noted the connections to the CDROM and main logic board when disconnecting the two small ribbon cables. I was able to get it reconnected this morning. I ended up hooking up the machine (with it's octopus connector) to a known good VGA monitor...

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

I can definitely see the problem with the space. That setup you have essentially looks like it takes hot air from the PPC heatsink and blows it onto the 486 heatsink, and then it bounces off the board and gets moved across the PPC heatsink.

Found DOS card in a boxed 6115 CD

I picked up a boxed 6115 a while back and didn’t do anything with it when I first got it other than to open it up and remove the battery, then try to power it up. Unfortunately, I got no video out on the multisync 15” monitor that came with it. So I set it aside, having other more pressing...

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

I think you got your answer. It's going to be nearly impossible to tell without removing the board. There are a lot of obscure 3rd party accelerators out there. You might get lucky and find someone who has the same board and would recognize the underside of the board without any markings, but...
