PowerMac G5 boot chime but no video out

So, I thought this earlier G5 2.5GHz machine was air cooled, but I now realize I was wrong. I'm going to hold off on doing anything with it until I can inspect the liquid cooling setup for leaks. I thought only the last year model had the liquid cooling. I'm guessing that alone will prevent...

PowerMac G5 boot chime but no video out

Just picked up a really clean PowerMac G5 (dual 2.5 PCI-X). Owner said the video card was bad. I had another slower machine with a working video card, so I figured I'd just swap it out and have a nice, fast G5 as my bridge machine. When I first tried booting it up with the original graphics...

    asciiexpress.net legality

Thank you for your non-recommendations! Yeah, I was thinking of doing the TestFlight route, since I doubt the number of prospective users would be over that limit. I could script the builds and it would be pretty easy. I also considered making a Apple II catalog app, that would just be...

Broken RAM socket on SE - replacement options?

Awesome. I'll be doing that on my SE FDHD that's got a 25MHz 68030 upgrade card in it. The previous owner had a piece of paper wedged between the SIMMs to hold the lower one down. It works, but I want to do a proper fix.

Broken RAM socket on SE - replacement options?

I have an SE where the plastic clips holding the RAM down have broken. Has anyone removed these from the board and replaced them with new components that have metal retaining clips? I'd like to replace it and not have to worry every time I need to take memory out of the machine.

Macintosh SE Won't Boot System 7

Others will probably have a more definitive answer, but I'd suspect that you may have some bad memory. How many sticks of RAM are in there? Have you tried booting with a single stick?

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

Yeah, my first self assembled DB25 kit, apparently my bluepill is sitting a bit high, because the jumper pins (and subsequently the jumpers) keep the top of the case from sitting flush. If you want a little more wiggle room in the top of your case, here's one that is 1mm taller. Also included...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

My one concern about the slow sous vide method (especially if going for 24h) is floating pieces. Key caps can float and I worry about keys getting uneven coverage of the peroxide.

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I believe the ozone method has been tried and was not effective. Also could be damaging to metals, I believe. Certainly something people can try, but so far hydrogen peroxide in the hot sun seems to be the most effective approach, if done with caution.

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

Yeah, I've used just pure Peroxide creme (40vol) and reapply every 15-20 minutes (depending on how hot the South Carolina sun is that day). My goal is to keep the creme from drying in between coats. I also try to apply the brush strokes in opposite directions each time to try to minimize risk...

Error trying to install 2010 fix on eMate

The exact error was "An error had occurred during loading; probably out of memory. The System Update was not installed". I'm running system version 2.2.01, I believe. ROM shows version 2.1 (737246)-1. I ran the patch remover (I didn't think it would have a patch, since I got it from someone...

Error trying to install 2010 fix on eMate

I finally got around to setting up my Newton devices to load software from my Powerbook G3. I was able to get the 110/120/130 loaded with the 2010 fix and get the date set properly. However, I was trying to get my eMate fixe up with Eckhart Köppen's 2010 fix. Unfortunately, it fails with the...

Opening an external LaCie Tsumami case

So I finally decided to fire mine up and was surprised the 250MB Quantum inside still worked. Extremely load, so I doubt it will last long. Not a problem, as I'll be throwing a BlueSCSI in mine once my PCBs come in. Are you removing all the electronics, PCU and all, and simply having the...

Installing Mac OS X Leopard on the Apple TV (1st generation)

I suspected the powered hub may be the problem, but don't have a powered hub on hand. Then I remember that I have a powered USB switch. So I used that and it turns out the unpowered hub was it. Thanks for the information. Playing around with it now! I may try @z90 's idea of throwing some of...

Installing Mac OS X Leopard on the Apple TV (1st generation)

So, got the USB drive imaged and followed the steps for making it bootable, but when I boot it with the USB drive attached, I get the Apple logo, then I just get a spinner with the 🚫 symbol. Assuming I did something wrong when modifying the partitions?
