Correct, sorry for not stating that above.
So currently, I get the same error if 1) the drive is plugged in and turned on with a straight serial cable connected to the modem port. 2) the same (but with the HD removed from the case), or 3) with nothing plugged into any serial port.
I'm also...
Well, with the HD removed from the enclosure, but everything else plugged in, I get the same error about the drive not being recognized.
I reseated a bunch of chips (but not all) and cleaned a lot of the edge connectors. The drive spins up, but I don’t see any head movement… maybe the sensor...
Thanks David, I'm currently performing a number of those steps today. I didn't think of testing the enclosure without the drive connected, that's a good idea. I'll do that. (y)
I'll report back and keep everyone posted.
Here are some more photos of the boards... featuring a Z80 and a 68000...
Out of curiosity, I opened up the Tecmar "Volume Manager" software (v6.0.3) in ResEdit and looked through the alert messages.
This is the message I'm seeing when I use the drive. It's kind of vague, but I'm assuming it means it can't find or detect the hardware.
These are some other...
The Hyperdrive one is neat! And yes, this is a bigggg drive.
Thankfully the MacGUI article I linked to above (after you log in) has THREE versions of the Tecmar software, one of the later ones should even work with System 6.
Sadly, as I mentioned above, the software simply says it doesn't...
Yep! They had to use volume shenanigans to get around the maximum storage sizes of the original system software, hah!
This MacGUI article states:
"You can partition your MacDrive in up to 20 volumes. Of these 20 volumes, you can mount two at a time on the Macintosh 128K, or four at a time on...
That's a good question! This drive I believe was also capable of working with the Mac 128K, where the HD20 needed the 512K to work.
One of the original BlueSCSI System images I booted from had that driver, but it didn't seem to do anything.
From what I've read, this uses a special driver which...
Hey all,
I wanted to share something neat I picked up at VCF Midwest this year, a Tecmar Mac Drive, perhaps the first external hard drive for the Macintosh. This drive uses a serial port to connect to the Mac, and some software shenanigans to get around the storage size limitations of the...
The camera sensor? I haven't seen a source, it may be a custom part, but it also may be similar enough to find a replacement. The pinout of the ribbon cable to the camera isn't known however.
This may help, @Ron's Computer Videos did a great video and journey of archiving a lot of Adaptec drivers, including the 29160, you can check it out here: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/adaptec-powerdomain-scsi-card-firmware
It looks like it may have something similar to what you need.
Note...
You posted a photo of the 3D model you modified to fit the camera mount. Can you please upload the 3D model printable file (STL, Step, etc) that you created so I may print it and use it on my Kodak digitizer too?
You can attach the 3D print file to a reply post to upload it.
Thanks 👍
Although it's likely possible to remove the plastic hood for the camera without taking apart the whole unit... it's way easier to do it once the device has been taken apart. As the piece is very firmly in place, in my experience.
Be careful, there's a lot of small ribbon cables in the device...
The original Kodak lens has a dab of string glue on it. I removed mine with a hot air gun set to low, unsure if a hair dryer may work. You want to be careful not to melt anything.
Once removed the lens is on a spiral mount, so you can rotate it one way or the other to get better focus. At least...
Thanks for the revised 3D model. Can you please share it by attaching it to a post here?
I'd like to see if it solves the issue I have of things not being in focus on the left side of things.
Sadly Kodak no longer has any firmware updates on their website. 😥 This is where the original serial number matrix / data was pulled from to estimate the version numbers. Without more information the crude lookup tool I made cannot be updated... unless someone decodes the serial numbers further...
Long story short - I bought another LaserJet 600N ethernet adapter cheap, and it did the same thing. Then someone suggested I factory reset the printer. And you know what? That did it - factory resetting the printer resets the name of the network card too, so it reset the name of the network...
The Kodak devices can only use FAT32 formatted SD cards when flashing firmware to the device. I believe this is posted in the instructions. Otherwise, the system just ignores the firmware update.
ExFAT formatted cards will typically work fine when recording content from the Kodak device. I've...
Super awesome find!! 👏
It might be too far fetched... but I remember when I learned how to dump the ROM I found similar chips that had more capacity with the same footprint. However, I assume that perhaps the firmware isn't designed to run with more space available and probably wouldn't...
