GlobalTalk - Global AppleTalk network for MARCHintosh 2024 (and beyond!)

Thanks Chris, I tried rebooting and it had no effect for the ethernet bridge, even trying a bunch of IPconfig commands didn't seem to solve it. My System Environment Variables appear to be identical to what is provided. I'll reboot again for good measure.

GlobalTalk - Global AppleTalk network for MARCHintosh 2024 (and beyond!)

I appreciate the guide @Mu0n, I ran into some issues that maybe you can help with. 1. I couldn't get the ethernet bridge to grab a good IP address with my built-in ethernet adapter. So instead, I installed a second network card via a USB to ethernet adapter. Not only did this seem to go more...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Oh interesting, I think I saw 1GB, but that divided by 8 is 128MB. I think there is a Novatech SOC which I think has embedded memory. I’ll attach some photos to this post, but I don’t think I see any other chips that could be RAM related.

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Absolutely amazing progress @0dan0 ! I would have never guessed there was some in-process scaling. The results are truly impressive and I am eager to see what you discover next! 🥳

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Hello Andreas, Thank you for your interest in this project. The process of adjusting the white balance and exposure is not easy. People are working hard at looking at the code and trying to reverse engineer it. It is still be looking at by a number of great people here. When there is enough...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

You're welcome, thanks so much for your help! Well.. after 3 minutes it errored out. Although the warnings were far fewer on the console. The video file is at about 42-44 Mbit/s. Can we try maybe QP30 or QP40? I think if we can get it closer to 15-20 Mbit/s (as those worked for other mods)...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

It's not too hard, but I've made a guide. Once you remove a few screws the whole motor/camera mechanism comes out in one piece. Then you can remove the board. Please read each step, as there are some easy things to break (like the ribbon cable for the button controls). You can view the guide...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Oh wow, any idea why it blasted to 111+ Mbit/s, is it simply the QP control setting? After just 2 minutes on QP12 it crashed again :( Recording at about 112+ Mbit/s (see screenshot below)... but the recording looked great! 😅 Sadly - it also fails at QP15 after a few min. (which seems to...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

What's interesting is, I tried leaving the projector running for 10 minutes, and it was working with QP10. But - then all of a sudden it stopped (I only know because of the serial monitor, the digizter keeps chugging along). The resulting video file is nice (link to video here) but it looks...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I see, very interesting! :) I only have FW A and FW B units, so sadly FW C is something I can't test. However, I'm curious, QP10 works and gives this flags every once in a while. I wonder if it's calling out that there's a delay between the capture and writing to the SD card? I suppose small...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Yeah, here are two near identical recordings. The one with my standard modded firmware (Movie 20) versus the QP10 (Movie 17): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xizA1qN5kcgCmOA1dha1xsCl_uJeyLq2?usp=sharing Note: Due to the firmware being uploaded, these are set at the default picture...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

FYI - QP10 works, but QP5, after a few moments, gives the same "ERROR!" calls in the serial monitor. It will save a file to the SD card, but it doesn't do it properly so it won't open with VLC or QuickTime. I'll do some recordings of my regular firmware and the QP10 for direct comparisons and...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Thanks! For my model A, it now successfully flashes. But while it does try to record, and the device gives no clear errors (it even says a movie file name when you press stop) - it seems the files don't save on the SD card. Here's the readout from the console which may provide some clues, I...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

That may be it? Feel free to try using the Java version. Or direct message me the file before it gets compressed and I’ll try it with the Java app to see if it has a different result.

I'll try it on my model with the serial adapter to get a better understanding of where it's failing.

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Thanks Joe, I'll try these now. I assume 0 is max quality? EDIT: I tried the QP0/QP10/QP15 on my B model and it starts flashing the firmware... but it never finishes. The screen stays black and it seems to never flash. As removing the power and SD card makes it boot normally. Also - if you...

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

I'd be happy to try it. But can you do the same changes to the "Firmware B" file? I do not have a unit that is compatible with "C" revision firmware.

Modding the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (Firmware Hack)

Thank you. Can you explain what you did to modify the firmware? Since you don't have a Kodak unit to test this on, I'm very curious of the changes you may have done. Was it just to the resolution / bit rates? Because I've tried higher bit rates and it will crash during the recording process...
