Macintosh IIsi, Recapped, quite chime, no display.

I don't own a IIsi, nor have I worked on one, so I can't tell you from personal experience what it might be. However, I think it would be helpful to others with IIsi experience if you could post clear, hi-rez photos of your motherboard. That might help others come along and identify problem...

Macintosh Portrait Display Repair - Smearing/Pulsing Image on Screen

One interesting thing I have found is that sometimes 85°C rated caps have lower ESR than 105°C. I've never quite figured out why, but it has often been the case when I swap out caps for old electronics. It then becomes a question of which is better. Longevity with higher ESR or lower ESR...

Massive (filthy) find in South Carolina

Thank you for the photos! What I deliberately wrote was based on seeing what most everyone else in this hobby perpetually sees (primarily Maxwell brand exploded batteries which take out many a machine), so my deliberately severe reply reflects the severity of the problem. I don’t think it can...

Massive (filthy) find in South Carolina

There's a special place in 🔥👹 stoked daily for Maxell battery engineers and their managers who approved such horrific battery designs. Those people should be ashamed in light of the collateral damaged they deliberately caused. I highly doubt TADIRAN battery engineers were especially brilliant...

Massive (filthy) find in South Carolina

Has anyone every had an exploded Made in Israel TADIRAN? Honestly, every time I come across them, they are intact. They were designed to survive. Maxell, in contrast, designed them to die. Their battery engineers did an excellent job at that. Not only do they die, they try to take whatever...

    Should I install 64MB or 65MB in my SE/30?

When 128 isn't enough, 256 is now an optiion... https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/synchr030-s-256mb-sdram-accelerator-for-the-se-30.3840/ It's neat because it's accelerated RAM too.

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

Thanks for your work on that manual! I made a small improvement by swapping out the images for vector art (see attachment below).

    Apple Lisa 1-2 Hybrid Bezel

I don't own a LISA, but if I did, I would absolutely want the original LISA badge. It is a LISA, after all, which is true even if it is a later model that can run MacWorks. The LISA badge is a big part of the charm, which was later lost when it was slowly transformed into a "larger Mac". I...

    Macintosh IIci Logicboard recreation

@max1zzz I realize your aim was merely to recreate the original motherboard 1:1, but I am curious about trace widths and the power able to be supplied to the NuBus slots. It seems that Apple specifies a "budget" of 6.0A max for all the NuBus slots combined, and 2.0A budgeted for each NuBus...

I see you are replying there, so I will follow what you and Jonathan are saying. Jonathan is brilliant and may ultimately have a solution.

Glad to hear you tested on the stock IIc monitor initially and found that no text or anything else appeared. That first test wouldn't have shorted anything. Of course, it could be a problem with that monitor, unless you tried feeding video to it, such as with the RCA video out of an old VHS or...

    Just got this IIc and.....

The 15-pin connector on the IIc is not monitor compatible. Something will short if connected directly to a monitor, which would explain the reaction by your IIc. The 15-pin plug was made for an RF Modulator (for an old TV) primarily, or adapters like the one that shipped with the old Apple LCD...

    Just got this IIc and.....

Thank you for confirming that the "moving, colorful artifacts" display last for 30 seconds and ONLY occurs when both the keyboard and drive are disconnected. So it seems you could put in a floppy and boot from it, but you simply get a black screen and don't know if it boots or not (other than...

    G4 Cube VRM

@RickM I don't have hours to spend reviewing every design choice, but I did do a quick overview with the schematic you provided and the datasheet. I didn't spot anything obviously bad, but again, I've not pondered all the design choices made. I did take note of this table in the datasheet...

When you power on and wait, you only see what you show in your previous photo? Do the artifacts move, or is that image static? When you power on, do you hear the floppy drive heads move (it's loud, so you should)? Obviously, you must connect the drive to know.

    Just got this IIc and.....

I did not grow up using Apple II computers and therefore cannot tell you from personal experience what variations of the screen garbage there are. The test for that is super easy though -- just make time to connect your keyboard. If the artifacts vanish, then your previous photo will provide...

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

You could try to tap the Composite output pins on the 15-pin connector to see if that works… https://devonhubner.org/AppleIIc_Video_Port_Breakout/ More talk about it here: https://www.applefritter.com/content/apple-iic-video-output-15-pin-connector
