Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

    Congrats, @pff000 !

    Just got this IIc and.....

I assume you are trying to use the Composite RCA video output jack on the back. My IIc is the same. No Video out via that port. People have told me I need to apply solder to that connector as a potential fix, but because I have Plamen's (A2Heaven) IIc-to-VGA adapter, I've not set out to do...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

@phipli I only brought my SE/30 motherboard home with me for the weekend, but below are the test results using recommended RAMometer app. (And yes, I chose to Shut Down all background apps to ensure the best results.) I ran it 85 times only because I stepped away for about 15 minutes to...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

@YMK PerformerSE & Apple Personal Diagnostics v1.1.3 Very odd because when I first launch the app and run ONLY the CPU Speed > Memory test, it shows 1.61x faster... But then if I click "Run All Checks" it drops that Memory score to 1.09x faster... That huge change doesn't instill...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Thanks for the tip. Seems to be "Memory" under "CPU Speed" within the "Benchmark Checks" button... No time this evening so I'll run that tomorrow and post back then.

NOTE: All tests below were done with 33MHz Crystal (FPU only) installed in MacEffects Performer-SE. GemStart 3.0 Control Panel Info JDW's Speedometer 3.23 Results with GemStart 3.0 (System 7.1) Ron's Speedometer 3.23 Results with MM Performer 2.2.1 (System 6.0.8) JDW's Speedometer 3.23...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

There is no XTAL socket. I soldered the XTAL's 4 pins directly to the PCB pads. Separately from that, I see a README file... It says... Interestingly, your recommended Macintosh Garden download contains v.2.1 (within "gemstart.sit"), not the recommended (above) v.2.2: The MacEffects...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

I have very limited time today, time that will be used only to test your recommended control panel. Tomorrow will be very busy for me as well, but if I can check the frequency tomorrow, I will try. Otherwise, that must wait for Monday. Even so, what you are suggesting is that the...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

More specifically, you seem to be referring to DL#14... And it seems I need to expand the file named "gemstart3.sit": Very interesting... It uses the same icon as the v2.2.1 Control Panel I am using now... I must assume that means we must use the file named "gemstart.sit" with System 6?

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Yes, as per the instructions. Similar photo showing solder blob appears on @Bolle 's Github page. On that same Github page, the following text appears (I added clarity in brackets): All PCB files and renders at shown at Bolle's Github. I simply dropped the files into the Gerber viewer at...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

@phipli I installed the official Control Panel and Extension shown on the MacEffects Performer page. I will give your recommended drivers a try later today and report back with Speedometer 3.23 benchmark results at that time. @YMK There is indeed a huge memory bandwidth difference, and I...

NEW BENCHMARKS I ran Speedometer 3.23 on my stock SE/30 just now, since my Machine Record file didn't have SE/30 scores. Stock SE/30: Stock SE/30 (left) versus Performer-SE (no XTAL added, CPU=FPU=16MHz): Stock SE/30 (left) versus Performer-SE (with 33MHz FPU XTAL): CONCLUSIONS...

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Very interesting. Thank you for confirming that I am not losing my mind. I would have thought a doubling of clock speed would result in a far bigger boost to FPU benchmark scores, but your own tests show that to not be the case.

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

I also have a Performer-SE from MacEffects and have been testing it on my SE, both with and without an optional Crystal Oscillator. Results are as follows, inline with the results from @Ron's Computer Videos : JDW's TESTS JDW's Speedometer 3.23 Test (No FPU XTAL, stock 16MHz operation)...

So you repaired that broken trace and the vertical lines shown in your photo vanished, correct?

    New to Me Mac SE/30

A good start would be classic games like Dark Castle and Prince of Persia and Spectrum Holobyte Tetris, not to mention Lode Runner. Then move on to Utility apps like Norton Utilities 3.5, SCSI Director Pro 4.0, and Speedometer 3.23. There are so many utilities though. I probably have more...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

I took another look at your CRT photo, from your opening post. I've seen horizontal lines before with an iffy ROM socket, but not thin vertical lines. Those thin vertical lines very well could be RAM related. I realize you have good, new RAM SIMMs, so I am not suggesting those SIMMs are bad...

Battery damaged SE 30 help needed

No activity from A(0) coming from the ROM SIMM? Even with sufficiently thick ROM SIMMs, some boards warp over time. @Kay K.M.Mods posted some excellent info about that here: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/smc-rom-simm-prototype.2198/post-19023

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I have to admit, I got burned out after my earlier failure with something that was supposed to work but didn't. I'll probably give it another shot when at least two or three more people have used the same method (either that from @Scorpio_ny or that from @jasperman . Right now, the stock...

    New to Me Mac SE/30

I personally use a beefed up S7.1 install most of the time, with a fallback to System 6.0.x (via System Picker app) when I have the need for speed. @eric shows how to add 7.5.5 Functionality to 7.1: https://erichelgeson.github.io/blog/2021/03/23/ultimate-system-7.1/ Eric doesn’t talk about...
