It is not falsing triggering the auto stop, unless you have about 40 frames of completely clear. This is just the limitations of the hardware running at higher bitrate.

It is not a hard number, as it also depends on the grain and detail in your footage, and the rate of change in the footage. The original firmware would have averaged a Qp around 35. This is not a firmware bug, we simply running the compression beyond the design spec. For the highest quality...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

This is the risk you take when using a Qp below 22. Unit will randomly crash with the highest bitrates. This is way I added the Qp control, for max quality, you might have to rescan more, for a longer reels that you want to work reliability use a higher Qp.

Now for something completely different. Here is the github repo for all my C code extensions, and some the scripts I use. https://github.com/0dan0/4reels You can see how the histogram and the fonts are rendered, and the crude exposure and manual white balance logic. This is only the tip of...

v7.6.1 Bug fixes only. - Qp rate control below 20 was fixed on Type A & C (B was okay) - Now supports up to 400 ISO during encoding (not sure if this is a good thing, but try it.)

I got Type A running at Qp 16 again, outputting 45Mbs. Updating builds now.

Are you reapplying grain in Topaz, as this are pretty nice / gentle enhancements. Can you share your settings?

But I noticing, V7.6 doesn't want to go below Qp 20. Looking into that. It is Type A bug, only.

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

Bit-rate is depended on the Qp value. Lower Qp, higher bit-rates. If you values below 22, you adding risk of capture failures. Rare now, but it can happen.

The code can go to 400 in preview, but this might be bug. Use the histogram to judge the exposure.

Adjust using the Picture settings first, increasing the White Bal to 2.0. If still too blue, start the capture, then adjust the third parameter from 256, downward, until it looks okay.

Correct. The range of film means the ISO needs to vary. The algorithm will aim for the lowest practical for the film's density.

Release V7.6 This adds info reporting the sensor read-out resolution, but leaves the encoding resolution at 1600x1200 for now. This is info is during preview only. There is also the window offset, the number of x, y pixels from top left of the active sensor region. This could be useful for...

That is not the adaptor. The red and grey posts are just classic 8mm style reel hubs. You need to attached this over the red post:

Now for something not really firmware related, sensor read-out noise. Turns out the Reels has a lot of it. Any double-Es out there want to see if this can be improved? On my darkest footage I would sometime notice chroma artifacts at the top and bottom of the image. I was thinking it was the...
