Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

@phipli absolutely love your work here, but scale is problematic. Your lug holes will be nearly tangential to the bend lines on the sides. Nuts won't work and I don't think heavy enough metal to tap would be a workable alternative. Too much work even if possible. I'm wondering if the shield...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

Excellent, we can ignore pins 8, 9, 10, 18 and 26! That yields plenty of PCB real estate for a thruhole HD-15 I'd think. Might be a tad off center, but we're in business. Sense lines can be generated in VGA conversion if needed. Dedicated red and green ground shields can be had elsewhere and...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

It'll be very easy to buzz the connections. Dedicated R/G/B ground lines and any others can be ignored along with the other ground lines can be picked up elsewhere. Gives a decent shot at getting something cobbled together I think?

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

If nobody has done it yet, I'll pull out and adapter cable from the morass and buzz the connections. If there's physical interference, SMT HD-15 won't work as a substitute, interference would still be there. Worst case scenario would be a low level interface card with an inverted HD-15 on the...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

Ungupatchka! :p Just gotta love that beautiful mess. Haven't done the pin count, are those PCI slots? Back on topic, has anyone worked out the footprint for the required pins for this conversion? If they're not splayed out across two adjacent rows, we might interleave the HD-15 connector pins.

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

    You'll want to make the PCB about 50mm deep and about 35mm wide so it reaches the handy bolt down/standoff hole behind at the right edge of the connector. housing . . . ______ ___| . .. 0 | <- standoff/boltdown | . . . . . . . | | . . . . . . . | |_________| <- rear of case

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

Yer killin' me here guys! :p Just had to pull the 6100 board to see what's going on. There's plenty of clearance for a horizontal PCB with RA HD-15 VGA connector to pop out the back. There's even a handy bolt-down hole right next to the highest IC to be cleared behind the connector. If the IC...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

You don't need the vertical members for such a design. Use Right Angle HD-15 connector and build the VGA conversion into your board. Gotta pop the top to flip the switches, but that's easy on the pop-top 6100. A lot of folks want to keep the logic boards intact, some would gladly pony up the...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

Since your stated purpose is to pass these machines along to other folks in the community, I think you might well reconsider my suggestion? Some folks might want to keep the mobo cherry, some may want to keep the case cherry and some might want to pony up the bucks to source the real deal...

    2025 PowerPC Challenge

Dunno if it counts, but I've been using OS9 PPCs for pretty much everything but browsing for many years? Over Christmas/Hanukkah visit the rug rat finally gifted me with his first Mac, a G4 TiBook. G4 machines have been down, so I've been using a Lombard for day to day Graphics Suite and...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

I looked into this a loooong time ago for my 6100. What I came up with was a "periscope" PCB. with built in VGA adapter that mounts to the case with double sided tape or Velcro. ***** Never determined the pin spec for the HDI-45 monstrosity on the bottom of the board, likely header rows are...

Flashing the Silicon Image Sil3112 to work in Macs (2025 Edition)

Thanks! Do any of the ports work, maybe twop of them? Does anyone have a solution for an OS9 card? Gotta be, there's a vid of a TAM fanatic using SATA.

Flashing the Silicon Image Sil3112 to work in Macs (2025 Edition)

Rats! link at top of page brings up this PCIe(?) card: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285310334577 Didn't grok that part at first. Box says PCI, driver disk says PCIe as does edge card. Might it work as either? Looks like PCIe 1x slapped onto PCI? Not familiar with such, might it work in either...

Flashing the Silicon Image Sil3112 to work in Macs (2025 Edition)

Link at top of page still works. Is this the same card and has anyone gotten it to work with OS9? Does RAID work in Macs under OS9 or its horrid replacement? Wondering if it'll work in Classic under same. Curious about Linux as well, eventually building a new tower. New toy in stocking...

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

1973 date codes on ICs puts this into homebrew 8008 development board territory. What's the contact count on the slot? WAG would be base/PSU/manual programming input unit 8 (inverting data bit switches) for someone's 8008 build.

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

I can only identify three of the ICs. It's one for the Road Show I think. '73 was two years after Intel released 4004, its first 4-bit CPU. 8008 released a year and your find's 8-bit world. I think your guess that it's a blinky light 8-bit data indication unit might be right. It's an...

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

That's well before my time, the earliest general purpose bus I could dig up was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STD_Bus That's not even enough pins for an early 4bit computing bus AFAIK? https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/4-bit_computing Got a pic of the other side of that board?

When you know your 3 y/o son was in your office

Looks like time for electrical stimulation/conditioning of a young brain when it comes poking around in both light sockets and electrical outlets? Maybe better to do the lessons separately to avoid confusion?

Massive (filthy) find in South Carolina

All my MAXELL pulls are in this cork stoppered glass bottle. Been waiting well over five years for the first one to 'splode. Hoping it'll set off a chain reaction in the containment. 🎆 BTW, LOVE what you did with that fx board, fabulous!

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Cool beans! Love the info. I'll have to get my much upgraded Drexel 128K onto the bench. That's where I found the Performer @Bolle reverse engineered. Benchmarking stock OEM version against the Repo might be fun. Can't imagine there being a difference, but after I get the TriSlot testbed...
