Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Got a pic? My LCIII is out on loan . . . forever it seems. :( Quadra 630 project predates Section 8 AWOL MIA period and Quadra 605 riff was after I popped back in, but predates general availability of filimant printing technology. Switching the design up for SMT bodge of SIMMs/Adapter...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

If you're concerned about height, the SIMMs can be soldered directly to the adapter. 😉

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Is the LCIII SIMM oriented straight up or angled? SIMMspender above does exactly what you're suggesting in my target machines.

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

SIMMsppender can be extended to left or right using a modified 72pin form factor. ;) OMG, I so wish I had my Quadra 630 board to do this. It should have the full memory ceiling, greater than the two SIMM Slotted DOS boards when I get done with it. 🤪

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Very cool. Love your incredible research results. I've had some trouble describing this setup to you in words, so did a sketch this morning. Don't know if it'll fit in the LCIII, but Quadra project might be worth a look? SIMMspender is the inverse of a SIMMsaver. It consists of a passive...

What are your vintage grail items?

Wow! What a great story. Are you still working at Goddard or elsewhere for NASA? I wonder how many IIfx were scattered about the agency? A VERY cool customized case IIfx that a Mission Specialist used popped up somewhere or other fairly recently. What a gem, I snagged every pic available of it...

What are your vintage grail items?

It's truly a thing of beauty, no? Nope, never seen this unicorn nor heard tell of anyone hoarding one, but I have collected quite a few pics from many angles. I think I may already have posted too many in progress and Hack Proposals I think? I'd love to document this masked/secret/stealth...

What are your vintage grail items?

Eleanor's sitting proudly on its customized, primo spot the AppleDisplayUnit™ . . . . . . but with the Portable's lid open you can't see the worm logo on its NASA property tag. 😐 edit: TEASE! :ROFLMAO:

What are your vintage grail items?

WOW! Nice thread, but could use a bit of refinement? "Holy Grail" would be the unattainable or near-unobtanium: quest for the real deal - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. "Eleanor" would be the object of insane desires, but something one might actually get their hands on: Gone in Sixty...

You know you like a MAC Lciii when...

You really know you love your LCIII when you replace the 4MB onboard memory chips with 8MB replacements. Runs faster than those very cool sneakers. Nice! :D

    Go-To Apple ADB Keyboard

Here's the one that rocks my mechanical KBD loving world in pre-ADB beige: Here's the new playstation under construction with the Drexel branded Plus and beige goodness: Posting this because my Platinum ADB version is stored away while I rebuild the old setup without the tall bookcase...

    Go-To Apple ADB Keyboard

I have the KBD from the IIgs on hand for fiddling with equipment. Great feel/tiny footprint on the bench. Like as not I use the AppleDesign for its very long straight cable on my KVM setup. It's not nearly as bad a folks make it out to be, but not all that great either. NOT a fan of the AEKs...

    Kitchen demo & remodel

Can't tell you how much I'm impressed by both your design and installation throughout. I spent a couple of years dong Kitchen Design in a Big Box and can only think of one suggestion for you. Being an inveterate tinkerer/sometimes professional in many related fields including the design and...

68000 CPU interface replacement for Killy Klip - Photos of alternatives wanted

Thanks, that's what brought my notions back closer to the fire. :) Took one glance again and now am wondering how flexible the thinnest single sided PCB might be if cut in a comb pattern dividing pads for flex-contact up along IC legs with RA Headers installed in the thruholes pointing...

    Joe's Mac Racks

Never thought of that. 🤔 I have a beautiful set of Japanese pull saws for that kind of detailed work. But it's a rough cut kinda thing, an extension to the wood/plastic/metalworking power tool bench sitting opposite under the two corner windows of my apartment's living room. You can see one of...

MicroMac SE Prototypes Video Out Troubleshooting

Very curious to see the differentiation between the two cards. Given the info I posted, I'm willing to bet at least a nickel that the 2x5 header is single bit resolution over an EGA connection as mentioned in that product intro article. 🤔 https://old.pinouts.ru/Video/EGA_pinout.shtml

68000 CPU interface replacement for Killy Klip - Photos of alternatives wanted

Might that be the one mentioned in a thread over at the MLA? ISTR the designer saying it was a one use kinda deal at the time. I posted that first pic over where that was mentioned. Like I said, nice community project?

    Joe's Mac Racks

I like to keep mine close at hand in the work areas. These are stacked nicely behind the two sided, tucked under the shelves general purpose workstation. Front side looks better, now it's a neat lineup of compacts across the front, a couple tucked behind along with a baby Pavilion. Pics...

68000 CPU interface replacement for Killy Klip - Photos of alternatives wanted

Been a bit, but just ransacked my MLA pics archive. This is what needs replacing with something more workable for the 10cm Square PCB era/card development era. That was a wonderful, fairly mass produced kluge at the time, but not doable in a short run in this day and age. Besides, it was a...

MicroMac SE Prototypes Video Out Troubleshooting

More info from p.44 of the 2019 archive I did of my MLA attachments.***** So those connectors may not be what you had though? Treat the center section of that 2x8 header as a VGA HD15 breakout to see if the stars align? Don't recall the issue date of that article, but the year of Lapis...
