F4 BlueSCSI, a BlueSCSI Fork By Androda

I am unsure whether overclocking would increase transfer rates. BlueSCSI currently only speaks "Asynchronous SCSI", which is a slower protocol. "Synchronous SCSI" is faster, but much trickier to implement with current hardware. Overclocking is something I've been meaning to look into, out of...

BlueSCSI - Open, Low Cost, DIY SCSI to SD device

When will which part be available? There's no overclocking support in the F4 series currently. Here's the F4 BlueSCSI discussion thread: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/f4-bluescsi-a-bluescsi-fork-by-androda.1336/

F4 BlueSCSI, a BlueSCSI Fork By Androda

A new Release Candidate build has just been posted. If you are able to flash the update and do some testing, it would be very much appreciated. Release Candidate Link: https://github.com/androda/F4_BlueSCSI/releases/tag/1.1-SNAPSHOT-2022-06-21 Firmware update steps...

Is being 'obsolete' enough to be 'vintage' ?

I think most people refer to 'vintage' as 'I had this when I was a kid and now I'm 30+'. In general I'm in favor of anything which is 'abandoned' needing a place to be discussed, and why not here? This sounds like a seriously cool system though, what a strange combination of design choices.

LCD Screen replacement for Powerbook 100

Pink spots are generally caused by being stored in a stack. The trackball presses against the LCD and pixels start to die. PowerBooks should be stored on their edge, with no compressive force, to avoid the trackball killing LCD pixels. edit: alternately, remove the trackball before storage...

    Recreating Macintosh Portable Hybrid Module

The results on the latest hybrid PCB are in: * I had a resistor in the wrong place (bodge wires plus extra resistor required, already fixed for next PCB revision) * -5 volt rail works on the tester board after ^ Next up, I desoldered the hybrid module from a 5120 I've had for awhile. This one...

Looking for flex cables to recreate

Tested the eMate display cable, and success! This eMate had a working display but wouldn't accept touch inputs. Now it does. :) I also went through the process of fixing up the hinge so it shouldn't eat the display cable again. Fixing screen hinge tightness was pretty time consuming. If...

    Recreating Macintosh Portable Hybrid Module

30 second update: -5 will be fixed with the next PCB revision (see attached bodge wire nightmare test of the new -5 system). All that remains are the mysteries of the A/D line. I've considered throwing away the complicated op-amp system for something totally basic like a resistor divider that...

F4 BlueSCSI, a BlueSCSI Fork by Androda (Tech by Androda) https://github.com/androda/F4_BlueSCSI F4 BlueSCSI devices have been available for some time now, in a wide variety of styles: * PowerBook * Standard 50 Pin Internal * DB25 External * Centronics 50 Pin External The software is licensed...

Looking for flex cables to recreate

Thanks for the ideas and interest. The most important thing for me to note is that I can't recreate a cable without an original (and a damaged original is fine). Generally speaking the pinouts are not going to be available. And measurements often must be very exact. If you have an original...

Recreating Backlit Macintosh Portable Display Flex Cables

A second revision of these cables has been made and they're in the mail now. This revision makes the holes for the connector slightly larger for easier soldering, and the whole back of the cable will have the PI protector film. I've found a connector which I think will work to replace the...

Looking for flex cables to recreate

After a great many rounds of back and forth with the flex cable manufacturer, the eMate flex cables are now shipped. Also in that order is a set of second revision display cables for the backlit mac portable. Here's hoping everything works. :)

    Recreating Macintosh Portable Hybrid Module

Some progress has been made on the hybrid recreation. I assembled my new SMD style one and gave it a shot. Under-voltage lockout is now up to 6 volts, which is just about right for a 6v lead acid battery. Discharge much lower than this and you risk battery damage. The -5v generator isn't...

Need Help with Houdini II Cable Project - DOS Compatibility Card Y Cable Replacement

Based on my understanding, it's expected that you need the DOS card to pass through video. DOS card is basically a switch, and outputs either the Mac video or its own signal. It's kind of an awkward setup, where Mac video has to be passed into the DOS card and then the card decides which video...

Looking for flex cables to recreate

Order is placed for the first test run of eMate 300 display flex cables. Presuming they work, I'll be using several of these to fix up that lot of eMates I recently acquired. --------- If you have a system which is dead because of a bad flex cable, please contact me about it. A picture of the...

Recreating Backlit Macintosh Portable Display Flex Cables

There are a few bare v1 cables remaining at $35 each, so DM me if you're interested. Life has been hectic, I hope to have a v1.1 design which addresses the issues with v1 in the next few weeks.

    Androda's Finds

Took apart a random eMate and yep. Display cable eaten, hinges coming apart. You really have to dig in these things to get to the hinges, it's not convenient at all. At least this cable is a lot simpler than the one for the mac portable...

    Androda's Finds

Next up we have an original Mac Portable, and nine eMates. These eMates have screen and hinge issues, which is not surprising. I'll be recreating the display cable to see if that brings them back to life. And the mac portable is a portable. Needs work.
