Regarding the WALLED bracket... I only have the small Quantum ProDrive LPS units which don't fit even the stock metal brackets perfectly, and that is why you added the oval cut-out on the back hole in your latest revision. There are 3 holes on each side of my quantum drive, and here are the...

Regarding the LED being slightly off-center (to the right), relative to that rectangular window hole on the front plastic case of the SE or SE/30 (when viewed from the back of the machine (with rear housing removed, of course)... I am seeing that rectangle to be pretty much right at 8.0mm wide...

Calipers were just delivered! Finally! It’s 8:00pm here right now. Note that it uses a low-drain SR44SW silver oxide battery, superior to your typical LR44.

    Hi from Minnesota

My Avatar shows my bias, so it goes without saying I will suggest to get a Cube. Honestly, it’s about the only PPC Mac I am enthusiastic about. Aside from the two Cubes I own, the only other PPC Macs I own are a pair PowerBook Wallsteet PDQs, which have problems I’ve not been able to repair.

    Hi from Minnesota

Welcome to TinkerDifferent fellow G4 Cube lover! There's good reason I've made the Cube my Avatar for all of these years. The industrial design has stood the test of time. Don't listen to the naysayers who claim the Cube was a "failed product" because that only speaks of price and marketing...

    3D Printing & MacEffects Appreciation

Saturday mornings (Japan time) are the only time I get a reasonable amount of sleep (8 hours). Now that I'm refreshed, I will share some photos I took last night. LED MOUNTING [ PLATE BRACKET ] As per the conversation we had yesterday, I did not use the vintage black-plastic LED mount (which...

Have much more info and photos for you, but I'm dead tired and need to sleep. Will post my time tomorrow morning.

@jmacz My JLC3DP order arrived, and I've done some analysis. First, while both plastic drive brackets are of course lighter in weight than the stock metal, it's interesting to see that the plate weighs almost as much as the walled bracket. But that seems to boil down to PLA weighing more...

What's the best Video solution for a Vintage Apple IIe in 2025?

I couldn't tell from the video because sometimes filming CRTs can show you things that aren't there, but was the video stable when you connected the Apple II to that SONY monitor? Seems like it was shaking a little bit, but again, that just might be the filming process. Also, there are so many...

Announcing BlueSCSI Toolbox – Web Edition

The G4 Cube appears to use Ultra ATA/66 (ATA-5), with a theoretical maximum transfer rate: 66.7 MB/s. The ZuluIDE link shows it to be ATA/33 (ZuluIDE V2) at up to 28 MB/s.

Anyone tried installing LC575 speaker in Color Classic?

I guess @Marconelly needs to do some testing of 400K, 800K and 1.44MB floppies now to find out! :)

What's the best Video solution for a Vintage Apple IIe in 2025?

I just finished watching your video, and I must say that SONY Trinitron monitor is very interesting, especially because it can be battery powered! What is the typical selling price of those monitors? Also of note is the fact that even on your CRT, it is shifted up vertically, as I was...

Announcing BlueSCSI Toolbox – Web Edition

In Dec. 2021, I started a 120GB G4 Cube SSD thread, and that continued through 2023, ending in a total and utter dead-end for me. You can read what I bought and did starting from this post: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/120gb-ssds-in-g4-cube.601/page-3#post-22653

    LC520 Overclock

Oh yes, I know. But we don't know this: 1. Are all 3 resistors (R67/75/79) truly used by the clock circuit on the LC520 board? 2. To what exact chips and pins do each of the 3 resistors lead? So we are all just "assuming" the 3 need to be removed at this point. Same for folks in Japan back...

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Thank you for the crystal clear photo of C6, showing solder removed and the Positive (+) side pad missing... To follow MY advice, you would need to retain the removed pad, then try to clean out that black area under the pad with the tip of a razor blade like I did. The aim is to remove...

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Sorry, but which side is lifted? I had thought the + side was lifted and based my previous post on that assumption. You are speaking about the Negative side now, but is that side lifted? Or are both pads lifted? The photo doesn't make it clear. Because if it's only the NEGATIVE side lifted...

    LC520 Overclock

Thanks, @dougg3 ! So basically we need only remove 3 resistors, not all 4, despite what the book Doping Mac has to say. And Doping Mac probably said that merely to PHYSICALLY MATCH the LC550 board to the LC520 board, giving no consideration to FUNCTION of the said 4 resistors. (That's my...

    Se/30 c6 cap lead lifted

Seems the two pads are shorted together with solder, which needs to be rectified... I can also see the tiny trace to which the pad sitting directly below the white + connects. I've had one instance on an SE/30 board where I need to do a fix, but the trace leading to the pad was thicker...
