    Mac IIsi Repairathon

Great stuff, you've inspired me to have a crack at my pile of IIsi boards. Gotta get my right arm back online so it'll be a while. Given your mention of experience making things go more easily, I'll probably give the expendable pile of BeigeG3 machines a whirl as my first experience. Nice to...

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

Dunno about that, I seem to have every other sort of USB cable hanging off a lamp I use as a cord tree, but not the basic one, all those are in use apparently? Two six footers in overnight for seven bucks. ;) . . . and if another one pops up in the next week or so I ain't lettin' anyone in...

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

SATA/PATA card and better VidCard for the MDD came in today. Found the DVI to HDMI cable I'll need on the bench . . . . . . but how the hell do you run out of male to male USB-A to USB-A cables!?!

    Powermac G3 plastic part collection

IMO the only way to ship any Machines these days it to pack up TWO boxes. One with PSU, drives and anything else heavy and the cannibalized case in the other to prevent such borkage. Be that as it may, I'm loving your BG3 parts modeling. I have several to patch together and pass on, knowing the...

DIN 41612 Right angle for SE/30 PDS connector?

Looks right to me, the keying of the connector is the only thing that could possibly be a problem. We called this "wrong angling" the connector on just this kind of card in order to use it underneath the short version of the DiiMO accelerator adapter @Bolle came up with in that project. Don't...

    BlueSCSI Ultra & Ultra Wide

UltraWide for my 81/110 JackHammer? Is that an internal or external cable setup, looks external? Assuming it'll seem quicker due to near instantaneous response times, but throughput will be higher bandwidth with SCA Spinners for VidCap etc? Love it!

2026 PowerPC Challenge, is it happening?

If this is about setting up a PPC Machine, I'm in. MDD '03 OS9 special edition is on the bench yet again with a couple of cards on the way in for the project. Been working on it since the QS pooped out a couple of years ago with much frustration involved.

Radius Macintosh SE Full Page display pictures

You can set it up so that the cursor travels in a straight line between screens. That was much of the breakthrough. I'll try to search out that video.

There's a Vid out there explaining that the FPD system was the first of the "modern" windowing environments as was adopted by Apple and in universal use across all platforms today.

    Mac IIsi Repairathon

Wohoo! I have almost that many to recap, but only two cases. Have fun! Your battery bombed boards will make wonderful donors if worse comes to worse. Hoping the somnolent IIsi in SE/30 project springs to life! @Bolle?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Yep, they're wildly different under the hood, entirely different architectures. I'll see if I can drop an LCIII Block Diagram in for comparison to the Q605/LC475.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

The LC475 and Q605 are twins, there's a jumper you can change to fake up one in the other's case, all the same Quadra bits inside. Developer Notes for Macs have Block Diagrams to compare components/architectures. Q605 was handy:

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Cool, linkage? Is there a DRAM/VRAM minimum speed rating complication?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Interesting, so they used the same ASICs et al as on the 840AV? That was the only 68040/40 machine released. Where did your 475 component spec originate?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Either one, not one for overclocking here, so sticking with 25Mhz would be fine, it's the FPU that counts. Q605 was first gen Quadra magazine covergirl, reviews noted that its 25Mhz 68LC040 outperformed IIfx 68030/FPU floating point performance, but full 68040/25 with FPU would be wickedlier...

    A very special Mac Portable

Indeed, favorite is the god "Finagle" in Niven/Pournelle world building of space faring civilizations. Glad it was appreciated. I'd seen that clip many. many times, enjoying it every time, but this was the first time I thought about it critically. It would be an interesting experiment to see a...

The gods of friction and mass would disagree. ;)

    A very special Mac Portable

Very nice Video! Who buggered the FDD to eject the media like that for a game of catch? Was it Apple's clowns or NASA's?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Concur, the somewhat less sexy of the Q605/LC475 twins would be one of the primo examples of the 68040 generation. If you've a need to run PPC code you're better off with even the lowest rung of the lineage leading up to the P6360/6300. A full '040 would make a much better upgrade IMO.

Radius Macintosh SE Full Page display pictures

Nice! That was my setup of dreams in 1988! Doing graphics thru the SE Periscope was so frustrating that I almost bought the 12" XL. Thankfully waited for a used IIx, graduating to a cheap 19" TPD Football Field, still single bit, but oh what a difference!
