    Macintosh Portable horror story

Interesting, and good to know. So far yours is the only reference to tunnel vision on those that I've found.

    Macintosh Portable horror story

That was a Hosiden panel? It was my understanding that the 10.4 inch TFT panels found in early ThinkPads were a joint venture between IBM and Toshiba - and were the first TFT color panels of that size. 750C may be late enough that they sourced from elsewhere though? I need to look up when those...

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Found it. This thing. I think it’s a sponsored video, so take it with a grain of salt whether it’s any good or not, but it looks promising.

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

I saw something recently on YouTube - a hypersonic (I think, something like that) cutting tool. Looks like a small razer blade but vibrates very quickly. It can make extremely clean cuts in things, would be PERFECT for opening these batteries. Problem is they're pretty expensive, a few hundred...

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Alright, makes sense. Texture match is the real trouble though, not color. Makes perfect sense though if the packs you have are beat up.

My IIsi Power Supply is dying. Possible to fix?

Ooooh that does not sound fun. I appreciate the suggestion though, if I ever feel like it, I'll take it out. I should probably take everything off the output section and clean under tbh. Will I be delaying that for a long time though? Yes 😅

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Question - why are you bothering to build a 3D printed pack exactly? You can get the original packs open with little damage, you can't build a new battery without taking the BMS from an original, and a 3D printed pack won't look good at all on the side of a PowerBook. Why not just reuse the...

    PowerBook LCD Part Number List

Note: This resource has been mirrored here from a page on my website. I'll try to keep this page up to date, but if I forget, the most up to date version will be the one on my website. Link: https://macdat.net/macintosh/powerbook/general/powerbooklcdindex.html PowerBook LCD Part Number/Info...

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

I do believe these can be rebuilt without resetting or reflashing the BMS.

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

It’s the PRAM battery being dead that can sometimes cause a Pismo to act dead. If you disconnect the PRAM battery, it will start working again unless there’s another problem.

CMOS Battery PSA - mid 90s-early 2000s laptops affected!

And yet, it still managed to do that to your unit, even though the battery is located on the whole other side of the computer on such long wires. Truly nasty stuff. One thing I can safely say at this point is that just about every single laptop manufacturer used these at some point. Every one...

Trying to ressurect a Power Macintosh 9600/350

I don't believe the 9600 is one of the ones that needs a working PRAM battery to function. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    SE/30 Reloaded v. Original Board

I believe that edge connector was for factory testing and was never used for anything else, thus why it's not on the reloaded board.

Making a replacement Hinge for a 15" Studio Display

I've got one with a busted off hinge too! Though mine also has liquid damage on the screen, still turned on when I tested it though. Could be useful :)

    Managing your collections

I track everything on my website, all done manually. No fancy databases or automated entry. Probably inefficient, but 100% under my control and fun to manage. Each item has a short summary on the main page, then a dedicated pages with specs, operational status, and images. It's still WIP right...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

@jcs builds new ones, not sure if he ships to Australia or not though. It's not too difficult to build one though, if you have a spot welder.

My IIsi Power Supply is dying. Possible to fix?

Will go try that when I get the chance, can't hurt. Vertical board looks nasty, I'll bet there's problems there, but probably wouldn't cause the symptoms I'm having. Soft power did only work sometimes when the PSU was working though, so I'll bet there are still issues there! I wish I knew how...

    2024 PowerPC Challenge

I feel your pain... Back in...2019? I took a few parts out of it (RAM and fans IIRC) to clean off some dust, and it never booted again. It is also a Dual 1.8GHz model. I ended up replacing the motherboard entirely which is to this day the WORST must un-fun repair I've ever done. Helped in a huge...
