2026 PowerPC Challenge: the user's Unofficial thread

Day 16? Stripped all the HDDs out of the MDD'03, got it booting from OS9Lives Installer and hit another dead end. For now anyway: Drive Setup says my 128MB mSATA SSDs are unsupported 1) Tried one with SATA adapter on new card, not surprised it didn't work out of the gate 2) Tried...

What's the best way to fix a stripped-case screw hole?

Good tip, that' about like using toothpicks in a stripped screwhole in a wooden cabinet door. But without the wood glue.

LOL! Yep, it's hilarious, buddy. But I think I've noodled it out. Having VGA hooked up to the the 4:5 panel and DVI running through pestiferous ADC(?) via converter looks to have been the problem. DVI output to HDMI cable was creating a "ghost screen" along with VGA output to the 4:5 panel...

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Accursed MDD'03 just took another step backward on day twelve! USPS dropped off the Amazon package with a pair of the same DVI -> HDMI cables I'm using for the two HP Docking Station on the KVM Switch. I'm not getting video from...

Day 11 and after booting up like a champ the first time I fired it up out in the living room on day 8, it returns to the glorious state of flakiness that got it into the challenge! Drive kept repeating sounds like like galloping horses, but managed to make it to the happy Mac boot screen the...

Radius 81/100: yet another battery acid victim

Has anyone tried piggybacking chips to double the available video memory on the NuBus PPC Mac boardss? Given support for differing amounts of avaiable page buffer memory on the PDS cards, it might be worth looking into? In POST the system determines the amount available for output on the PDS...

Radius 81/100: yet another battery acid victim

Found out yesterday that the battery in my Radius 81/110 leaked at some point in the last couple of years. Doesn't appear to have exploded, though I can't get to it for another year or so, in week nine of rotator cuff surgery and that thing is well and truly buried! I'll be able to lift the...

Wanted to get the spec on the JackHammer in the Radius 81/110. Managed to get the side panel off and pull the card. Meanwhile I found next year's PPC challenge project . . . unfortunately. Thanks for remarks in your reply below, getting me to take a second look. I owe you one @phunguss...

Test Jig for CC analog/digital boards

What, no carry handle or swingout mounts for the scope and meter? Seriously, that is one amazing creation, I love it just the way it is. * hope the featuritis joke doesn't fall flat. ;)

Yep! He was still spry and not such a head case at that point in his career. I think it was a Gary Busy line? Man, am I ever exhausted! Moved the MDD from my temporary bench over the futon onto the rolling filing station that lives in front of the TelCo rack. All done single/wrong handed...

Nope, not the one I'm thinking of, but maybe there too. Think Erica Eleniak in an action movie. :p Got linkage for your ASS of choice? Heh! Now that I look again with readers on, I'm thinking Arctic Silver #5?

Yep, I thought I recalled them getting it running on a mini. Was almost tempted into trying it on the 12" AlBook. But for the speed hit, I'd probably prefer to have menus on its 1024x768 panel and 1600x1200 as my work screen than the mini's 1920x1200 on only a single screen. A 320 pixel strip...

Did a little research for next year's challenge! Look like a switch to intel may be the next step: MacPro 2,1 (Early 2007) spec on the last Mac that'll boot into Tiger 10.4.7, but will it run Faux9/Classic? Found two answers in yes/no conflict...

2026 PowerPC Challenge: the user's Unofficial thread

AHA! I think I remembered why the MDD failed the "set it up in the rack test." ISTR the VidCard being dual head, but not flexible enough to run two displays at right angles to each other. If I can't run what's now a 1040p screen landscape and the 1920x1200 panel next to it in portrait mode, it...

Cable arrived with over an hour to spare! Turns out I didn't really need it, forgot I had to plug the powered hub into the MDD, but still need it to switch over to the PowerBook G4 using the same K+V+M setup, no switchbox involved, just swapping the damn cables around. Made me a bit frazzled...

Beautiful shots! The rug rat and I did the 2017 trek, it was just amazing! I finally got a full frame Nikon D750 for my even larger bag of prime lenses. The F bag only has three or four, sometimes five primes. D750's jus a bit larger than the standard prism F mainstay. I think we need to...

    Mac IIsi Repairathon

Great stuff, you've inspired me to have a crack at my pile of IIsi boards. Gotta get my right arm back online so it'll be a while. Given your mention of experience making things go more easily, I'll probably give the expendable pile of BeigeG3 machines a whirl as my first experience. Nice to...
