Last thing I did to my a1117 was install a Mercury Accelsior M sata ssd to pcie adapter & the a1047, I was messing around with lubuntu but I think I will transition it to a shuriken Tiger box.

I found this thread on the arch forum with a guy having similar issues with the nvidia driver and 08 mbp. Doesn't look like he perfectly fixed his issues either as he solved for one issue, additional problems/instability popped up but per that thread, the proprietary nvida driver *should* work...

I would look at your heatsink repaste/reassembly with a fresh set of eyes. Is the cpu/gpu heatsinks seated correctly? Are all the screws in? Are all the sensors and fans installed correctly? Before jumping to a cap job, Id take a fresh look at your ressembly and make sure that is not the cause.
