    Help choosing accelerator/booster for Beige G3 266

I could also use an Apple 400MHz G3 ZIF CPU, though that would be a bit slower.

    Help choosing accelerator/booster for Beige G3 266

I think I want my beige G3 desktop to be one of my flagship vintage machines. I just love the ugly old form factor, and the incorporation (first time for me) of color and CD-ROM. And that era was when I committed as a solo lawyer, to the Mac environment for my office, though I was using a '95...

    MARCHintosh 2026 Projects

My Marchintosh Project as a vintage newbie is to figure out how to connect up all the various Serial/MIDI pieces (Roland PC-200, Opcode Studio 2 interface, cables, microphone) I have collected to my Mac SE/30 with 64 MB RAM, BlueSCSI and FloppyEMU, get something like Opcode Studio Vision or...

Differences in grayscale options for the SE/30

So I have looked all over the place and it seems as though @zigzagjoe and Bolle are not currently in production and no word when they might want to do some more. I did find a Micron Xceed (regular, not macro) online, and also a Rasterops, which apparently is also an option. But no neckbeards...

Differences in grayscale options for the SE/30

Well, when and if you do any more of them, I will be it like a ski bum on a powder day!

Stranger Things, I think I blame it, at least partially, to a nostalgic vintage quest... Leading me to Game nostalgia also, DnD, Myst, Hitchhiker's

Yeah, I was born 60's and a little ahead of you, and road a stripped down StingRay as my "BMX" bike. My little brother had a real one with a diamond frame and a handle bar with a pad in it. It was interesting how they incorporated some 70's vibe into the show that was 80's based. Since it was...

Starting my Compact Mac Vintage Journey with this SE modded to SE/30 project.

Thank you! that helps me confirm what I have been researching. And thanks also for the heads up on the main wiring harness. I was planning on replacing my PSU as it has not been recapped. As far as video/greyscale cards and accelerators, will be keeping my eyes open for units available to...

This has been very helpful. Thank you for the question and post, and thank you @zigzagjoe for your answers.

Starting my Compact Mac Vintage Journey with this SE modded to SE/30 project.

OK, here it is! I have been excited about this. Figured out from the UPS store today. First a little unboxing. It was packed very well, in my opinion. Hooked everything up. The newer keyboard that doesn’t have the rainbow apple seems to work better as the Q key seems to be stuck on the one...

    NOW UPGRADE THREAD - Power Macintosh G3 Beige Desktop – 266MHz (soon Buffalo G3 Accelerator 500MHz) – 224MB RAM – 6GB HDD – Mac OS 9, project

Did some futzing and figured out prior owner installed an ATI Rage 128 with a VGA port from a newer G3. Which was good because I chose the wrong resolution for the M4551 Studio Display and lost all visuals and couldn't get it back for a while. So I went and got a used Acer with VGA and hooked...

    NOW UPGRADE THREAD - Power Macintosh G3 Beige Desktop – 266MHz (soon Buffalo G3 Accelerator 500MHz) – 224MB RAM – 6GB HDD – Mac OS 9, project

I am going to have quite a few of these “duh” rookie vintage moments as I get going on remembering how to use these old machines and operating systems and programs. Thanks all, in advance for your patience… 😊

First Gen Apple LCD Display M4551

The combination is up and running! But not sure I’m getting all I can out of the monitor. It doesn’t look like the settings are allowing me to use all the colors it can, and get as much brightness and clarity as I should be able to. I’ll read more and try to figure out more later.

    NOW UPGRADE THREAD - Power Macintosh G3 Beige Desktop – 266MHz (soon Buffalo G3 Accelerator 500MHz) – 224MB RAM – 6GB HDD – Mac OS 9, project

EDIT: I have decided I want my Beige G3 to be one of my premier working collection pieces and want to upgrade it a fair bit. Starting with a Buffalo G3 Accelerator 500MHz PowerPC 750 1 MB L2 Cache that I will post about down at the current end of the thread. More to come I would expect...

Stranger Things, I think I blame it, at least partially, to a nostalgic vintage quest... Leading me to Game nostalgia also, DnD, Myst, Hitchhiker's

Just finished watching the final final last night, and enjoyed it. I was trying not to be too critical of plot or whatever and just enjoy the characters I came to love over the course of the show. I was a bit older than they were in those years, being in college when the show started, and...

Longtime Mac user, Newbie to here and to Vintage.

I now remember that first personal PC I ever saw. It was my friend and roommate's Commodore Pet (II, I believe). He later went on to work for Apple and later than that, ended up doing very well in tech. It was my study partner in law school who had the Compaq, which was sort of a "portable"...

First Gen Apple LCD Display M4551

Found this for cheap at the Reuseum computer recycler in Boise that does STEM Education supported by their sales. Was interested in what they might have to start me off on my vintage frolic. found this thing. It turns out people ask a lot for these on eBay. I will use it with the Beige G3...

    NOW UPGRADE THREAD - Power Macintosh G3 Beige Desktop – 266MHz (soon Buffalo G3 Accelerator 500MHz) – 224MB RAM – 6GB HDD – Mac OS 9, project

As I got started into considering vintage, found this monitor at the local computer and electronics recycler which also runs and supports with sales STEM programs in Boise. Seems like it sells, or is at least offered, for a lot as it was the first Apple LCD display. Anyhow, got that for 20...
