    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

You are welcome! Yes, this commit fixed the bug (which is what I referred to above as the Error -50 issue). BTW, one changed behavior that I've noticed after using this release for a while, is that copying certain files over DSI leads to afpd erroring out with dsi_stream_read: len:-1, No such...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

I'm proud to present a new release from the Netatalk 2.x fork: https://github.com/rdmark/Netatalk-2.x/releases/tag/netatalk-2-220401b This version constitutes a massive refactoring, code cleanup, plus security and stability improvements. The primary functional change is that the configure...

    PMOS battery solution

An update on this: I found some technical documentation for my 386 motherboard in question and realized that there's an external battery header, J1, sitting just below the internal battery compartment. I could not detect any charging currency going into this header either, and some discussion...

    PMOS battery solution

Good question! The battery is KTS brand and looks like this. There is scant information online.

    PMOS battery solution

Actually, I may have been incorrect in my assumption. When I tested both the internal and external battery headers with my multimeter, neither had any noticeable voltage supplied to them when the computer was in operation. Would you say it's safe to assume no voltage means that the motherboard...

    PMOS battery solution

I suppose this would work, although I believe a diode needs to be connected in serial to stop the motherboard from feeding 5V into it. Personally, I'd prefer a solution that doesn't involve soldering a battery directly onto the board, however.

    PMOS battery solution

I was recently given a 386 for free that had been used as a phone and fax switch at a local theater for decades, but had been decommissioned at some point and was gathering dust in a corner. It's a late-era 'industrial' 386 with IC date codes from 1995, and I was able to extract the PMOS...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Bug Alert: Netatalk 2 will fail to create icon resources for classic Mac OS files copied onto the AFPShare when running on 64-bit Linux. On Mac OS 7.5 and earlier, files will still be copied but when you access them from another Mac, you will notice that they have lost their icons, reverting to...

Macintosh Color Display M1212 Capacitor List (1-645-346-13)

While working on refurbishing a Macintosh Color Display M1212, I took the opportunity to record the electrolytic capacitors on the "analog board". There didn't seem to be any electrolytics on the neckboard. Location Capacitance (μF) Voltage (V) Diameter (mm) CF10 220 35 10 CF11 470 25 10...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

I'm glad to announce the first tagged release of this Netatalk fork! A broader group of people have tested it for a good few weeks now, and code changes have been minor recently, so I think this is as good a time as any to cut a "stable" release as a baseline for further development. Find the...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

It's encouraging to hear that the Netatalk install script was helpful to you! Yes, the plan is to cut a release from this fork at some point in the not too distant future, and then update the RaSCSI script to make use of it. However, I still haven't given up hope on getting the important...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

Thanks to the continued contributions by various community members, more patches are gradually being merged into this fork. If you checked out branch-netatalk-2-2-x a few weeks ago, I'd encourage you to pull the latest code and try it out! There may be bugs lurking, so please report back if you...

Problem with video signal on a Apple //c+

At a glance, it looks like the color fringing that you usually get with Apple II text mode on a composite color NTSC monitor. I could be wrong though. Have you tried with a monochrome composite monitor?

netatalk errors with files on an SBM/CIFS share

@benfranske What version of Netatalk are you running? In the case of Netatalk 2.2, have you tried different ea (extended attributes) settings? What I would imagine is that SMB gets confused by the weird binary files created in the .AppleDouble dirs by the default AppleDouble v2 implementation...

Upgrading IIsi onboard RAM to 4MB

@Zane Kaminski Did you get around to benchmarking whether this mod had a measurable negative performance impact or not? As per the IIsi RAM-Muncher readme, applications loaded into the on-board RAM will run slower, since the CPU shares that memory with the video circuitry. Hence, logically if...

Macintosh II & IIx replacement battery holders

Update: Let me add one caveat and pitfall to using 2x CR2032 in a Mac II. After about 2 months had passed since I first installed the above battery mod, my Mac II wouldn't start today. I measured the voltage that the battery holder output, and got 5.09V. This was not enough to kickstart the PSU...

Help wanted: Revitalize or replace Macintosh II RAM sockets

I can happily report that the 30 pin SIMM Socket Metal Latches product from Phoenix Enterprises work great in a Mac II, with some minor modifications. The spacing and layout of all the pins line up perfectly, however, the two plastic prongs on each end are of the wrong shape for the holes in the...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

I'm curious if you're aware of any outstanding appletalk Linux kernel module rot at the moment? As I understand it, the whole debacle stared with a string of patches originating from a Huawei engineer, that were accepted into the Linux kernel in early 2019 despite effectively breaking the...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

The whole point with using Netatalk 2.2 is for the DDP support, plus the printer server, time server, and Apple II netboot server that also run on DDP. If you're content with DSI (TCP/IP) the mainline Netatalk 3.1 is a better choice, IMHO. And if you want to run it on M1 or Intel Macs, I've...

Help wanted: Revitalize or replace Macintosh II RAM sockets

This approach didn't quite work with this particular type of slot. Each of the contacts are resting in a recess in the plastic, and if you pinch them they pop out of their recess and end up obstructing the slot. There's no leeway to bend them in either direction. They're either inside the...
