    MessagePad

There were a few commercial stands available “back in the day” … I use an “Executive” stand for my Newton web server. (similar to the stand in the 1st photo below) Other folks have repurposed book display stands. (2nd photo) Pawel Piotrowski created his own stand out of Lego. (3rd photo)

Newton as a http web server - any advice?

I’m sure that Morgan would appreciate having another active mirror for the UNNA contents.

Newton as a http web server - any advice?

You’ve got me thinking that I should get my NPDS server back up and running. It used to have a dedicated static IP address up until a year or so ago. Now I need to tinker with dynamic DNS and port forwarding to get the outside world to see it.

Newton as a http web server - any advice?

Hey, Alex. Unfortunately, there really isn’t a single page that explains all of the ins and outs of setting up an NPDS server. (This is something that the NPDS community has been wanting to do for years.) The original documentation on the NPDS site is a bit dated, but still valid. Truth be...

Error trying to install 2010 fix on eMate

As list dad of the NewtonTalk mailing list, I can’t recall anyone reporting that they bricked their eMate (or German MP2x00) when installing the Y2010 patch since it was released. FWIW, I have a hunch that the warning on that page is a leftover from when Eckhart was still in the process of...

Hidden treasure inside an old AirPort Extreme Base Station (A1034)

Great finds! A bonus with these cards is that they will also work in a Newton MessagePad 2x00 or eMate along with the appropriate drivers. Newton FAQ: Can I use a wireless card in my Newton?

Error trying to install 2010 fix on eMate

It could be a lack of temporary internal storage for the patch to be applied, but there are a couple of other thing to check. Can you post exactly what the error is? Also, what version of system is currently on the eMate? If any previous system patches have been applied, you’ll to remove them...

    Snooper serial loopback plug

@Branchus Here are a couple of high resolution images of my Snooper card. Hopefully there’s enough detail to make out the traces … the colour on this thing is really dark and low contrast. The two capacitors appear to be the same specs (see third photo). Let me know if you need any other details.

    If you're on the fence between a MP120/130 vs a MP2000/2100...

I own several dozen Newton devices and none of the rubberized coating have ever “gooed” up on me. Maybe it has something to do with the relatively low humidity we have here on western Canada. Possibly related … I have hardly ever had a battery go “ballistic” on me in a vintage computer. I’ve...

    Snooper serial loopback plug

I have one the Maxa Snooper NuBus cards (1.0) … but it didn’t come with the loopback plug. I wasn’t even aware that such a thing existed until now. I guess I need to read the user manual a bit closer.

    MessagePad locked by PIN?

I posted this in another thread as well … you need Avi Drissman’s Fix2010 package for the MP1x0 devices.

    MessagePad 120

Eckhart’s patch is only for the MP2x00 and eMate, but MP1x0 devices running Newton OS 2.0 require Avi Drissman’s Fix2010 package.

Seconded. I’m going to tackle this myself.

Another great thing about the MP2x00 series is the customizable “soft buttons” at the bottom of the screen as opposed to the preset group of buttons on the MP1x0 devices. If you really want to power up the interface of the MP2x00, check out Mason Mark’s Dash Board. And make sure to read the...
