@Adam Thank you for catering to my idle curiosity. :)

    Macchimey?

If they're just flat pieces to start with, might it make more sense to just use thin polycarbonate? Probably cheaper than printing out flat sheets.

    The Allentown Haul

Oh, and is the machine to the left of the 6500 (6400?) some form of PC or is it a Mac Clone?

    The Allentown Haul

Does the scanner have an 8.5" X 11" surface or 8.5" X 14" surface? Some of the Umax scanners had the larger surface, which was nice. However, they used double sided tape to hold the glass to the underside of the casing, and the tape fails.

    Upside Down PLCC Adapter/Reader

I only have one example of the Rev. 3 6880M and I didn't want to risk corrupting the Flash contents by desoldering it, if possible. I noticed that a PLCC socket will fit over a PLCC chip, while it's still soldered to its host board. The chip will just be upside-down in the socket. So I made...

    Macintosh connector part numbers

They are KEL and somebody over on 68kmla identified them. There was also an old link to an Amiga forum discussion about a group buy of their version of the connectors. Try looking for a thread with Wombat in the name? It's either in there, or the the author of that thread, authored another...

    5v FPM DIMM's!

It seems like most folks don't care for the PM7200 much, but one interesting thing about it is that according to the Hardware Developer Note, it can address 256MB DIMMs, meaning that the maxium capacity could be 1GB of RAM, if anyone ever built some 256MB DIMMs for it. Non-EDO of course. :)...

    Macintosh connector part numbers

AMP 3-145090-7 (the -7 is important on this part; isn't just pin length or coating). I've seen the -4's on Ebay and it's a different number of pins. https://www.questcomp.com/part/4/3-145090-7/44392838 That's the through-hole part. I don't know the part number and so have not searched for...

    1" Mac Mouse Ball Replacement

Nice. I hunted down a company in China that sell rubber coated balls, but ultimately they told me the didn't produce a 1" outer diameter rubber coated ball. I suspect 100 quantity was just too low to interest them. They say they do custom jobs. BTW, I've had fairly good luck replacing worn...

    Macintosh connector part numbers

X100 PDS Slot: I should add the correction that I actually ordered the Burndy CEE2X91S-3Z14 from TCP. They're the same part except for the pin length or plating. I'm not sure why I switched to this part. May have been an availability issue. Minimum order 4 instead 5? Too long ago...

PowerMac G3 Personality Card - looking for 182 pin PERCH 90’ edge connector adapter

Actually, looking at my notes again, it appears that what I actually ordered from TCP was Burndy CEE2X91S-3Z14 They're the same part, except for pin length or plating or some such. I'm not sure why I got the 3Z14. Perhaps the V7Z14 turned out to be unavailable.

My PowerMac 7100/80 AV Recap Project

It should just be four clips through the motherboard holding it on. Be gentle and exercise care though. You do not want apply much downward pressure on the CPU. They're prone to cracking. Also, do not over-apply the replacement heat sink compound. It's just filling the un-flat places...

    Dark mode vs. Light mode

I don't know. I wish I had a great solution. My personal desire would be to default to light mode, but it seems like a lot of folks like dark mode more. So then you have the same problem, just in reverse. A giant welcoming banner that says, "Hey, if you don't like the look, change it in...

    Macchimey?

It seemed to. At least, the 512KE it was on never had problems. I installed a NewLife memory/SCSI upgrade so it was drawing some extra power. But I didn't have it thermocoupled or an air flow meter at the top. So I couldn't tell you that it objectively worked. By girlfriend (now my Ex and...

    Macintosh II with ROM-SIMM

I had a ~$900 order ready to go with them based off of one quote and otherwise their web page. Then the emails from them started rolling in. Oh, sorry, we don' t actually have any of the RTC or ADB chips we listed as 30,000+ in stock. The Flash you wanted is 5 times the price that's on our...

    Macintosh II with ROM-SIMM

Nice work. About the SWIM, Utsource quoted me $110 each with a minimum of 100 last week. I don't know who is going to spend $11,000 on SWIM chips... It does imply that there are far more than 100 available, though.

PowerMac G3 Personality Card - looking for 182 pin PERCH 90’ edge connector adapter

@Mr. Fahrenheit I think that may be the same connector used in the X100 PDS slot. https://www.connectorpeople.com/Connector/BURNDY/C/CEE2X91S-V7Z14 The linked connector is confirmed as the connector matching the X100 PDS slot. I ordered a few of them and compared. So you may wish to compare...

My PowerMac 7100/80 AV Recap Project

You've probably already done it, but don't forget to replace the heat sink compound on the PPC601. Still smarting over the hours I spent trouble-shooting 20 years ago, when the whole problem was bad heat sink compound....

    Dark mode vs. Light mode

I do not like the dark mode at all. I find it extremely difficult to read. But then, I'm 58-years-old. Nothing wrong with my eyes AFAIK, but I'm older. If dark mode was all that was available, I would give up on trying to read the site. I mention this, because it wasn't until I looked...
