MacWrite Pro - user manual needed

There is probably one in this sealed box … https://www.ebay.com/itm/125954207345?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=rsanY0WHSum&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=IOlrchesSyG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

All right @misterg33 try this one. I have tested thoroughly under 7.5.5 and am running it myself on my dev setup continually with no issues. I still haven’t installed OS8/9 (and probably won’t anytime soon - just too busy with life) but I patched every possible trap I could think of that the...

MacWrite Pro - user manual needed

Have you tried Clarisworks? An awesome product. Anyway, this isn’t the manual, but it might help a little https://archive.org/details/mac-write-pro-quick-reference

    Mu0n's MidJourney outputs

    Mu0n's MidJourney outputs

That’s a good setup and got closer but I just don’t think that kind of metacommand is supported by MidJourney. Inspired by @Mu0n I tried it with image—> “house”. It’s got the feel of B&W pixel art without actually being truly B&W or respecting my resolution instructions:

    Mu0n's MidJourney outputs

I can’t wait to one day request a bunch of “32 x 32 bitmap icons, using only pure white and pure black, in the style of Susan Kare….”

    Mu0n's MidJourney outputs

I mean, these are gorgeous. Is it unable to understand 512x342 with b&w as a requirement?

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

Oh bummer. Thanks for letting me know. I only have a 7.5.5 setup so the Finder probably changed in a way that will require a tweak. I will have to do a little more work to find a version that works under OS 8/9. I will try this weekend.

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

Thanks, here’s a little demo. It’s quick and easy. I hope this is useful to you. I will post an update by tomorrow that lets you temporarily see dotfiles by holding down a modifier key when you open a window in the Finder. (I found the solution to the wrinkle I mentioned above.

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

Hey @misterg33 try this hack I made tonight. Drop it in your System Folder. It tricks Mac OS (tested under 7.5.5 only so far) into thinking that any file whose name begins with a dot is invisible. To try it out: open any folder. Rename a file to start with a dot. Close and reopen the...

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

Oh sure, but it’s much more fun to hack the Finder

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

Technical note: I haven’t been able to find (yet) how Finder 7.5.5 checks if a file is supposed to be invisible. It doesn’t seem to use either PBGetFInfo or PBGetCatInfo. (Or rather, it does cycle thru PBGetCatInfo once for every file when it opens a folder window, just as I expected … but...

    Hiding "dot" files in Classic?

What’s AFP? I doubt there is an existing extension to do this (and I strongly doubt a ResEdit hack could do it), but I might enjoy writing one this week. What version of Classic are you running in practice?

    SMC Fat Mac Switcher

This is a cool device because I love hackery. But for practical purposes — what programs only run on the 128K Mac? I’m sure there are some, though I can’t think of any.

[High Score Challenge 03] Glypha: Vintage, Glypha III v1.0.1 and Tetris (Spectrum Holobytes)

Wow this is awesome. Glypha III was my favorite shareware Mac game of all time (I much preferred it to the one I wrote https://macintoshgarden.org/games/beamwars). I have to get in on this. I just tried Glypha Vintage on Steam (thanks for making me aware of it!) and instant reaction: it is...

ThinkC MacDock dev progress -- Like today's macOS Dock but for System 7

That’s a great book, it has the best published (that I have seen) material on how to write trap-patching INITs outside of MacTutor. I have a physical copy in my bedroom closet!

ThinkC MacDock dev progress -- Like today's macOS Dock but for System 7

Yes, check out the ‘aete’ resource in the Finder (or any application) for the details. The presence of these resources is what tells Mac OS an application is scriptable and what sort of AppleEvents it responds to, as well as telling the Script Editor how to display its dictionary. For example...

ThinkC MacDock dev progress -- Like today's macOS Dock but for System 7

Applications that support AEs via AppleScript are supposed to be self-documenting. Open the AppleScript “Script Editor” application. Go to File/“Open Dictionary…”. Go to your System Folder and open the Finder. You’ll then be able to see everything supported by the Finder via AppleEvents from...

ThinkC MacDock dev progress -- Like today's macOS Dock but for System 7

No sadly, the Layer Manager isn’t covered anywhere to my knowledge. It’s in the ROM and OS and you can find the source code for it online but there is no documentation anywhere that I’ve seen, since it was intended to be a private part of the Mac OS. (Applications aren’t supposed to mess with...
