Can Mac OS 8.1 run on a SE/30? RASCSI/BlueSCSI image wanted

Curious, but how slow is it, and is there any reason to run 8.1 on it, other than because you can? 😂

    1987 Macintosh Plus (Platinum)

Well, this just fell into my lap! Literally never really thought about getting a Plus before as it seemed kinda pointless with me having an SE...well, a few/eight SE's and SE/30's in various states of being broken... However, I told myself that if i ever found one for a non-silly price, with...

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

From the images you've provided - it's confirmed my hypothesis - it's a clock doubler. The 89.92MHz oscillator is divided by 2 to give you 44.96MHz - the PAL's are there to decouple the onboard clock from the 68040 clock, letting the CPU run asynchronous to the bus, thus eliminating any issues...

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

You likely won't break anything - just needs to be unplugged from the socket it's in - sometimes you just need to take your time levering it back and forth with a plastic tool, or your fingers. Hard to tell what it is for definite, as the parts are mostly on the side you can't see - we're only...

Macintosh LC 475 ..... need a little help

That looks very much like a speed doubler - or L2 cache, as @Fizzbinn mentioned. You can get it out of the socket by gently wiggling it and pulling on it, or you can lever it with a plastic spudger?

    MOS CPU Replacer for C64

Came across this today - would be ideal for anyone looking to resurrect a dead machine without having to resort to cannibalising the ever decreasing number of working machines out there. https://monotech.fwscart.com/MOS_CPU_Replacer_(65108501)/p6083514_21591072.aspx Technically it'll replace...

    IBM 5170 main board components

FB, in PCB Silkscreen nomenclature, stands for Ferrite Bead - they're just wire links with a ferrite surrounding them - used for noise suppression - any cheap ferrite bead from eBay would do the job :)

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Honestly i'd be really interested to see what would be possible with the Apollo '080 core that's used in the Vampire series of Amiga accelerators.

Macintosh SE - PLCC ADB Adapter board

This will allow the use of the PLCC ADB Transceiver in the Macintosh SE, which is the only model that uses a DIP18 part. There's not much to it other than that! @Branchus has used one of these, successfully, in a troublesome SE, iirc. The github page to the project and the gerbers, is here...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

@AlexCL did something to a Mac, using a PiStorm, iirc, if that's the thing you're referring to?

FileMaker Pro IWP (database publishing on the web)

@JDW My previous employer was a firm called iSOS. Despite the horror stories from that place, they DID have a few very talented FileMaker guys employed there - who could certainly help - even an initial email conversation with them might be worth it. Filemaker Pro 12 is very, very old, I was...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

A 16MHz '000 is half the speed of the '030 at 16MHz - the '030 has some L1 cache at least, and it does more work, per cycle.

    VIC 20 Start up Screen

I do hope that's not a professional modification! 😂 I can imagine the sales man giving it the smooth spiel - "Yeah, we make VIC-20's for schools, specially modified - juuuuust sign here on the dotted line for your order...we only ask for double the listing price" And when the purchasing...
