TIL: A fast 68030 CAN play MP3 files, but will not smoothy play through anything higher than 32kbps, so they don't sound too good!

    PowerBook 150!

The best worst PowerBook? Well I've got one now. 33MHz 030 8MB RAM "beautiful" passive matrix 4-bit grayscale LCD upgraded 1GB hard drive (the original quantum was of course dead) NO PRAM battery damage! It's been replaced at some point, seems to even work maybe? Will probably remove it anyway...

[High Score Challenge 01] Get the highest score for 1-3 of these games

Hah! that was some timing there. I'm playing Glider 4 now, and just got a new high score, and as I thought to myself "I'm gonna submit this score", I got the email notification. Same second. And yours is higher. But not by that much. It is on!

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

Last night, I replaced all the capacitors with new ones, except for 2 on the logic board that I was missing. I got the display hooked up, tried to start it, and nothing. Just the same blank screen as before. Ah well. I walked away for a minute, then suddenly… It sprung into life! I’ve got it...

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

Agree, break those seals! Those floppies won't last available, archiving the data before it rots away is important for preservation. As for archival, disk copy will work, but for that much stuff you may want to look into investing into a proper dumping rig using something like an AppleSauce or...

    Help with capacitor compatibility

Yikes. Yeah, that may be an issue. Not sure what I'd do about if no local places carry that value.

    Help with capacitor compatibility

There is a 3.9uf capacitor linked in the mouser cart the JDW supplied, and yes, capacitance must be the same.

    Help with capacitor compatibility

Yes, it should be. The voltage is the maximum that the capacitor can handle, running it at lower voltages will be fine for an electrolytic cap.

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

Hah, just edited my post before yours having just found it. Thank you for your help! I will note for anyone who's come across this thread in the future: The hinge fix part itself made by gregorhouse has an error in it - it should have cut-outs for 2 structural bits in the display housing, but...

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

You've appeared to post the same link for both, both being the front bezel clips that Action Retro made (That I don't have any current issues with). If you've actually found a template than I will thank you for eternity! Edit: FOUND IT! I've seen this one before, but always missed that it also...

    2023 PowerPC Challenge!

I don't know if I could dedicate 2 weeks of using PPC as much as possible for everything, but over the next week or so I might see how much I can get done with my 17" DLSD G4. Does anyone know of a way to get a google drive desktop volume running on Leopard? If that's possible then I could use...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

Caps aren't actually getting here until tomorrow now, and I'm not going to be around to work on it until Monday afternoon so no updates until then. And then of course those last 2 caps I didn't realize I needed won't get here until wednesday... I'll bet if I could figure out which ones are used...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

This post is a collection of multiple posts from 68kMLA that I'm cross-posting to the threads here and on VCF all in one go. Post #1: Still got a bunch of pad cleaning to do, but all caps are now off the logic board, and the pads are mostly clean! I twisted them off as I haven’t gotten a...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

It has arrived! And it made it in one piece. It was packed with tons of bubble wrap (although somewhat insecurely), but all parts arrived in great shape. The seller also packed the trackball separately as I requested. I plugged in the PowerBook and it immediately started up to the blue/black...
