Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

You don’t know my background, and I don’t know yours, so can we chill with jumping down each other’s throats here? I only jumped in to clarify someone else’s argument, and I’m being made to feel like I’m now making that argument. This is a rabbit hole that only serves to pull away from the...

The Neither Net adapter help with Mac Plus

I do get how this can be confusing for those who aren’t tech savvy enough with networking. Especially when we talk about Ethernet (the cable) and Ethernet (the network protocol). EtherTalk is a way to pass AppleTalk over Ethernet (the protocol) networks. So you have layering like this: RJ-45...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

To me, that's still adapter logic (perhaps circuit is more precise). Even the old ones didn't exactly have much in the way of smarts. But ultimately, the comment was that there should be plenty of room to do whatever you need with a PCB, as it should be straight-forward to work around the ICs...

Need solution for HDI-45 to DB-15 connectors for video out

ICs on the 6100 logic board. If your goal is to build a PCB that will go straight to VGA, you will need the adapter logic built in, and thus some space is needed to fit it all in. I think they are commenting it should be straight forward to let the PCB sit above the ICs if you need the space.

Getting random crashes when screen savers are running. Can someone help me figure out a log from MacsBug?

Glad you got it sorted out. This is expected behavior I think. After Dark is a system extension, so it doesn't have its own process. I'm not even sure the System has a process in System 7.

The Neither Net adapter help with Mac Plus

I guess the question is: how are you trying to use it? The iBook G4 doesn't support LocalTalk, as the last Mac to do so natively was the beige PowerMac G3. NeitherNet isn't an Ethernet adapter either. So I'm not sure how these two devices would be able to talk to each other, because they would...

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

Funny enough, rsync strips extended attributes (including quarantine) without any additional parameters in Terminal.app, which I just confirmed. This is what happens when I don't have a lot of time to truly grok what's going on. :) Apple does things for the sake of macOS behavior, and...

BlueSCSI v2 Pico - Low cost, open hardware, fast SCSI device!

There was some discussion in the BlueSCSI Web thread about SD card fragmentation, and I wanted to add to it without polluting the thread, so I am moving it here if that's okay. I currently use an M4 Mac to setup my BlueSCSI cards, and while I have had a few stumbling blocks on the way, I have...

Getting random crashes when screen savers are running. Can someone help me figure out a log from MacsBug?

Is it the same crash, I wonder? A lot of what I saw was based on the heaps the PixPat was associated with, as there wasn't much more to go on in the crash logs without a stack trace. MacsBug calls it a stack crawl, and has the 'sc' command for providing it. This would at least give us a better...

Getting random crashes when screen savers are running. Can someone help me figure out a log from MacsBug?

Yeah, these sort of intermittent crashes can be painful to track down. Crash dumps made this sort of thing so much easier once we had the ability. Still, I wonder if you had anything setup to do something like set the desktop pattern? It seems like the most obvious reason the Finder would be...

    New to Me: Quicksilver G4

The Radeon 9000 showed up earlier than I expected. Haven't had a chance to push it yet, but I do appreciate getting the cleaner signal. The RetroTink doesn't need a profile to get optimal timings for DVI/HDMI, but SwitchRes is still a life-saver. The 9000 Pro wants to only output 720p when it...

    New to Me: Quicksilver G4

I did go with a PATA to SATA adapter because OWC had decent prices on their kits when I ordered that use the StarTech adapter. Performance is good, but copying files from the NAS is bottlenecked by the ATA bus. Not sure if I care enough to get better file copy performance at the prices being...

    New to Me: Quicksilver G4

Since this is primarily going to be an OS 9 machine and will not be running much software which benefits from multi-processors, I’m not really sure there’s much in the way of upgrades that are worth it. So I’m just looking for a Radeon 9000 Pro at the moment as the 4Ti is pretty pricy. A dual...

Getting random crashes when screen savers are running. Can someone help me figure out a log from MacsBug?

It's been a loooong time since I've done any 68K assembler, so take some of this with a grain of salt. This function seems to be a private Toolbox function to convert pixel patterns? It gets passed in a pointer/handle(?) to a data structure of some kind. It pulls some data out of that...

    New to Me: Quicksilver G4

The Mac that got me through college was a PowerMac 8600, but I did pine for a couple of the late model PowerMacs, with the design of the Quicksilver G4 being my favorite. But I wound up with an iMac G5 and later a Mac Pro. So when I saw a working Quicksilver G4 867Mhz in good shape locally, and...

    Refreshing a Quadra 605

While I wait on the VRAM, I’ve been working on the upscaling side of my setup. Right now I’m using an Amazon bought VGA adapter, feeding into a Retrotink 4K, outputting to a 4K OLED. Yes, the 4K is expensive, but it supports upscaling VGA and DVI/HDMI, and it’s been a great tool to have with my...

    Refreshing a Quadra 605

Everything but the VRAM has shown up. So I followed up with a few more modifications to the system: - Installed a full MC68040 and 50x50x15mm heat sink. - Installed a Noctua A6x15 FLX fan to get a little more airflow in the case (rated at 14CFM vs 11CFM of the original). - Installed an Apple...

    Apple Keyboard ADB port broken.

Yes, S-Video is also Mini DIN 4. I'm thinking more the PCB footprint, not the plug itself. Different sockets are meant to attach to the PCB in slightly different ways which may not be compatible with the PCB in the OP's keyboard. For example, the one ADB Keyboard II teardown I ran across seemed...

    Apple Keyboard ADB port broken.

These are Mini DIN 4 sockets and are still readily available from places like DigiKey and Mouser. I’m not super familiar with the pin spacing Apple used on the keyboards themselves to mount them onto the PCBs, so you’ll want to make sure the part you use is roughly the same footprint and pin layout.

    Refreshing a Quadra 605

Picked up some 26AWG wire and installed the bodges. Not my best work, but all the replaced capacitors beeped out correctly based on the schematic, so time to start putting things back together. Put back together in the lower case. The battery is temporary as I’m still waiting on many parts...
