unknown part on 128k analog board?

I'm not too knowledgeable about inductors, but could one conceivably use an LCR meter to measure the min and max values of a stock L2 part and use those to source a modern replacement?

Ram 30-pin SIMM socket where to buy?

Looks like something just was goofy with the link, I got it updated: https://www.peconnectors.com/sockets-pga-cpu-and-memory/hws5040/

Ram 30-pin SIMM socket where to buy?

Here's the spreadsheet I put together of all the parts on the SE/30 board. The RAM slots are listed on the "Top-side special parts" tab.

Archiving CD images using Toast 3 (1997)

ISO9660 is really a filesystem and not necessary a disc image container format -- it was designed to be cross-platform compatible, hence the reason it's still mountable on modern operating systems. If you pick this when creating a disc image, you're not *really* creating a disc image; you're...

I Need Some Advice-Suggestions For A Portable External SSD?

SanDisk is probably the biggest name when it comes to external flash storage, and while in general their products are decent, they had some issues with a few models and their parent company, Western Digital, didn't handle the situation well. Crucial hasn't been as big a player with external...

Help me figure out how to sign a macOS app

Well believe it or not, the ChatGPT instructions actually worked! The last time I tried to use it for anything technical, it tried to get me to use a software library that doesn't exist.

Help me figure out how to sign a macOS app

So there's a bash script I wrote that, to make it more convenient to run, I package up using Platypus. Problem is the resulting app isn't signed, so it requires bypassing Gatekeeper in order to run it. With macOS Sequoia making it more difficult to bypass Gatekeeper, I need to finally get around...

Crucible for the SMC ROM SIMM

Thank you all, this is very helpful! I have one of Kay's ROM SIMMs but picked up a ROMmate since, as mentioned, it's more convenient than having to remove the ROM chips individually for programming. Looks like I have several good solutions here!

Crucible for the SMC ROM SIMM

Sorry, I should have been clearer on my use case -- I'm interested in using Crucible because it offers an easy way to customize the Happy Mac icon in the ROM. The SIMM Programmer app doesn't seem to be able to do that. So basically I'm looking for a way to take the output from Crucible and use...

Crucible for the SMC ROM SIMM

So maybe I missed it elsewhere, but here goes: Is there a way to get Crucible to either 1) output a single file to flash to a ROM SIMM (like when using a tool like the CayMac Vintage ROMmate programmer), or 2) merge the four files into a single one? (Just append one after the other in a hex...

Question(s) with my first brand used SE/30, hopefully a restoration story...

Understandable. It sounded like from your original post that you were having trouble with pads lifting, hence the idea of replacing the whole PCB. If yours is in good shape otherwise then that's likely unnecessary. I know that cracked/cold solder joints is a common problem on Mac 128/512/Plus...

Question(s) with my first brand used SE/30, hopefully a restoration story...

If you're finding the pads on your analog board are getting to be overwhelming, it may be worth considering just replacing the whole PCB entirely. Kay has a BOM linked there too and most of the parts can be bought new/NOS.

    IIsi Sony Power Supply Oddities

Powering on then off again sounds to me like a short somewhere; the PSU goes into protection. The good news is that there's at least two options for replacements in development...but that's all I can say for now.

Motobike restoration project in the near future (hopefully) :)

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a motorcycle expert, but I do think this is a great project for learning about working on them! Since it's an older model it should be much simpler than something new, and it sounds like your neighbor will be a great resource. Always ask questions, and don't...

Building my own 68k Performa / LC / Color Classic Test Bench

IIRC the motherboard edge-connector harness is the same dimensions regardless of Mac model, from the CC all the way up to the 6500. The depth of the motherboards changed with the 580/630 and onwards (which is why the Takky mod requires chassis surgery, to move the harness closer to the front of...

Found my original iPod (M8541), and it's a beauty

The mechanical scroll wheel on the 1st gens always felt so premium to me, with how smooth it is. Back when they launched I wasn't super keen on them (I felt that burning MP3s to CD-Rs to play in my Discman was more economical) but after borrowing a friend's iPod I was instantly hooked.
