No reply to my question yet.
So I went with SMD model tantalums.
These have about the same length as the original caps.
Altough SMD gives a cleaner mount,
I think that if the „wired“ version can do the job, recapping may be easier for the less trained (like me…)
I feel working with SMD is...
The 630 board cleaned and recapped with tantalums.
Actually it did surprise me that there where already
quite a few small tantalums on the board.
Only nine of the „old“ type condensors.
Looking at the available spaces on the board.
I suspect that when there was sufficiënt space,
the Apple...
Just wondering….
Ive replaced 3 boards now with the standard condensors, and yes I know these will also start to leak in 25-30 years from now.
I might redo them in the future😇
For my next (630) board I wish to go for tantalums.
My trouble is that some positions are harder to solder/reach in...
Good info!
But looking at the display hinge, this shows it was much later in 1984.
While the first book hinge shows up in the model of 1980.
Right?
Or?
Great video!
This shows that at that time there was no solution for a display hinge.
Apple made a kind of a (foldable?) triangular rack behind the the display.
Thats why the bookconcept does not show a hinge, there was no solution yet.
First one seems to be in the cnet pinterest image.
@retr01 ...
scrolling on Pinterest showed this Frogs 1980 concept with the display hinge incorporated in the displays edge…
So this looks a bit like to be the predecessor study into Apple‘s first laptop …….
Well, its has been a while, since I got the LCIII for this project…and before even trying to boot it, I did remove the caps.
It was a mess…..specially in the audio department.
Hope this works out well😇
Removing these caps was no problem at all, but some did not leave the pads where they belong...
