the LCIII is indeed an interresting board!

And only about 47 mm longer than the Classic II.

At last, finally a bit of vacationing feeling….

I did resize the image to a realistic keyboard size of 300x125mm.
The result is a product outline of 300x370mm combined with a 9,7” ipad display.
Thickness has not been determined yet.

The original display would then have been about 205x140mm.
The 9,7“ has a viewable size of 200x150mm

Sofar the initial dimensions.

Its a very nice size for a classic II / LC III portable.
As for the display, I have some ideas….but always open to suggestions

If noting works, a more conventional hinge can be applied.
Time will tell…..

Well, its has been a while, since I got the LCIII for this project…and before even trying to boot it, I did remove the caps.

It was a mess…..specially in the audio department.
Hope this works out well
Removing these caps was no problem at all, but some did not leave the pads where they belong. Did manage to trace and bodge one to the other side.

In the end all seems well
Chimes again, and fdd still works.

Yep. Many designs were done in the snow white design language before settling on the final design for the IIc. Then that carried on to the rest of Apple products until around 1992 when Apple got lost and messed up.

scrolling on Pinterest showed this Frogs 1980 concept with the display hinge incorporated in the displays edge…
So this looks a bit like to be the predecessor study into Apple‘s first laptop …….

Yeah. That found the way into the display for the Apple //c and //c Plus. I like the design. It didn't turn out well back then, and few display units were sold. I am sure that with modern tech, it will work great. With the appropriate size, right @SE40?

Some folks did a color LCD for that portable screen for the Apple //c. One of the members here on TinkerDifferent, @Javmast3r, did a fun YouTube video showing that color LCD conversion.

Apple made a kind of a (foldable?) triangular rack behind the the display.
Thats why the bookconcept does not show a hinge, there was no solution yet.
First one seems to be in the cnet pinterest image.

I believe it had a hinge in the tubular housing on the right side that does not move below the LCD screen. There was another design version that had a bigger LCD screen with the hinge in tubular hinge housing below the LCD. Those two versions of the Apple Snow White 3 "MacBook" were designed in 1984.

Interestingly, Frog Design and Apple did consider the "MacBook" name in design concepts back in 1984 with Steve Jobs and Hartmut Esslinger. That did not surface much later with Steve Jobs and Jonathan Ive, as Apple announced at the release of the first MacBook on May 16, 2006.

Yes. Besides those two pictured above, I found a hinged version of the advanced concept of the Apple IIc system in 1983. Then, I found more pictures of the modular flat screen "MacBook" back in 1984. And the "New York" version of the MacBook design was in the same year.

Eerily, the fourth picture resembled the Macintosh Portable released by Apple on September 29, 1989.
