I have seen several examples of using CR2032 battery holders as replacements for dead half-AA on compact Macs. Using this type of battery has been working fine for me on the SE/30, SE, Mac Classic, and I assume there are other systems that can use this solution as well. This is not news to most...
Successful Macintosh troubleshooting is rewarded with a chime! It‘s actually a great feeling to hear that when you have only received blank displays, stripes or checkerboard visuals. I am happy to report that I fixed the Mac Classic.
After an easy recap and cleaning, this logic board had...
You could at least power it up disconnected and put a meter on the pins to check voltages. If it is a Sony, it may be nice to do that before putting the cover on so you can turn the adjustment pot to set voltages where you want to account for reduction with load.
Yeah, a Sony is what is inside the other SE.
I haven’t posted about the actual issue. I was having some weird errors trying to initialize a disk image. SCSI utilities would see the drive image on ID0 but it would not consistently mount. I expect the image was setup with Lido, and reinstalling...
Well, I lifted the board which was not as hard as I thought and I do NOT see any trim pot for adjusting the output voltage like the Sony. Bummer. May need a recap or ATX swap. Fun project, different weekend I think. I will try one from another SE now and see if I can find root cause of my issues.
I am troubleshooting BlueSCSI flakiness on an SE and so far it is starting to look like a power issue. I was going to adjust the voltage output but it has the Astec PSU. I took off the top case but there is no visible adjustment pot. Does anyone know if it has a down facing adjustment? Should I...
@AndyDiags I like the security slot suggestion, but I could not think of a way to use it without cutting the case to get the security clips out of the way. Maybe there is a slick way to make a snap-in part that would let you mount one of these slot extensions and be reversable. If you designed...
There are several factors of concern when it comes to design. Print orientation (and resulting surface texture aesthetics) is just one factor, but it is not incorrect to favor stability, avoid supports, and feature overhangs (that grow laterally at printable slopes). It is ultimately up to the...
I just updated my thingiverse item <EDIT: NOW REMOVED—Sorry, I completely misinterpreted the PRUSA footer for object remix on PotatoFi’s item>. This was inspired by Potatofi, and tweaked to put the SD card within reach (or within slightly easier reach).
Anyway, there is now <was> a 1.1 version...
It is a good point. If only I had an ethernet card to worry about that!
Actually, burning the expansion slot is far from ideal. A security slot mod would probably require cutting the plastic on the inside, so until I have something for the expansion area, I’d like to avoid destructive mods if...
Also, I just ordered a BlueSCSI kit from Joe’s computer museum. I expect I will need to make another version of the mounting bracket above to fit, so if you can wait a few days until after I get my kit, I will no doubt have another version to share.
And if I recall, when I installed an image on my internal drive, at the time, hacking the ATV1 did not have a convenient usb patchstick solution yet, so we were pulling off the rubber boot and removing the HDD to set it up on a mac running Tiger.
I remember that it ran horribly too, but it may have been unresolved misconfiguration, as I remember there was a process that would start pushing the CPU utilization way high and mine would eventually overheat/hang/crash. Having just booted mine again and finding it on 10.5.8 surprised me, as I...
Inspired by your progress, I pulled down my ATV and plugged it in. It looks like I left the replacement HDD in there from years ago as it booted right into OSX. Mine is running 10.5.8, an iDeneb image. I must have installed this over Tiger before I put the project away. It still had the flashing...
I had Tiger runing just fine on the internal drive.
I had mine functioning as an IOS print server for a while before I setup a Pi to do the same thing. However, I have new interest in getting this running again. I think I still have a drive already setup—just need to swap it back into the case.
@max1zzz Much appreciated! It makes a lot more sense for this to move to a marketplace forum—especially since I put WTB in the title. Sorry about that. Still, a little troubleshooting confirmation was worth it here.
I am in Portland, OR, but I have not started shopping for EPROMs. I was merely...
