    Recreateing the Apple TechStep

This is really amazing, well done! 😄 I'd love to try one of these out next to my original side-by-side.

Mac Classic II won't start, instead purrs

To me it sounds like it's failing to get the power it needs to start up. I would double-check the voltages. Thankfully you can do this easily from the floppy drive port with a multimeter. Bruce has an excellent video (here) that shows the process. If the voltages are in spec, then turn your eyes...

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

My personal issue with losing the resource fork is that it acts as another roadblock for people loading software into the vintage Mac OS via trying to open/mount the disk image. If someone wants to mount a .img/.dc42 on a real Mac (or via an emulator), they'd need to use ResEdit and add the file...

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

For each disk, before inserting it to the drive, I open the shutter and inspect it briefly to determine if I can spot any scratches, dirty, or mold etc. After archiving over 100 disks, I haven't seen too much debris, even on disks from the early 1980's. However, some did have dirt and possible...

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

MFM surprised me too, but I believe it's for the 1.4MB Mac disks. Again the Macintosh documentation for the Kryoflux isn't super detailed. But I think I was using that for 1.4MB disks and "Apple DOS 400K/800K" for 400K/800K Macintosh disks. (I've updated my post to make this more clear, assuming...

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

I just stuffed a folder that contained apps and files to a .sit using DropStuff v3.5, v4.5 and v5.5. Once compressed to a .sit (not using Bin-Hex), I uploaded the files to an FTP and then downloaded them on another Mac. Once unstuffed the resource forks remained happy and the apps launched. Yay?

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

Oh wow, I didn't know this. My mind just blended bin and binhex. Thanks for the tip!

Archiving best practices and breaking the Seal?

Oh boy, archiving floppies! 💾 Well... *rolls up sleeves*, let me try to shed some light on what I've learned. My apologizes for the book! (There is a TL;DR below) Introduction I'm not an expert, but a lot of smart people have helped me over the years. Please be aware that I'm just typing this...

Solicitation to be considered for the TinkerDifferent Board of Directors

Hello everyone, I'm Steve, I'm one of the founding members of Tinker Different and was the initial President during our forming. For our first full term I held the title of Vice President. I was quite glad to be a part of this community from the start and I hope I can continue to service in...

Apple Thermal Transfer Printer aka Iic Scribe repair and cartridge info

Wow, excellent work trying to get this back up and running! I can dump the ROM from mine to see if they match. The one ribbon I have always snaps unfortunately. If I tape it together it snaps again…

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

I agree 1,000%. It seems one person posted one that is a prototype and set a silly high number... and then people with normal units thought that theirs was worth that too. I messaged some of those sellers and they had no idea what they had... they didn't even list the ROM packs that were...

DuoDock Power Supply issue (Un-solved agin)

This is what fixed my Duo Dock. Those two tiny little capacitors wedged in the power supply (which I had to drill open) were the culprit!

My Weird Dual Floppy Macintosh 512K

Yes, the second drive plugs into the external floppy port on the back of the system. The second internal drive originated from an external disk drive. Since the Mac 512K only has one internal floppy port, they cut a hole in the side and routed the cable externally to use the external floppy...

My Weird Dual Floppy Macintosh 512K

Hello everyone! Some of you may have seen the video I did on my odd acquisition (video link), but I wanted to provide some more photos. I purchased it because it really looked slickly done. The seller didn't take a photo of the side of the machine that clearly showed this was a mod... so I...

This is what a bad Macintosh SE/30 Video ROM looks like

Thanks! Yes that’s the part name that Joe helped me find. Are you aware of what speed I should be looking for that chip? There seem to be many different ones available.
