    VCF Midwest September, 10-11 2022

I will be attending the Vintage Computer Festival Midwest in Elmhurst, IL. This is the first For me. Thought I’d start a thread to discuss what it’s like, who will be there, any swap/sale items you might bring or what you are hoping to find. I’m looking for a Macintosh IIcx compatible...

Which Macintoshes, NuBus Video Cards Only Do “Sync on Green”?

Interested in hearing if the inexpensive multi-switch adapters worked or not. I'm getting a IIci in the near future and would like to find a solution that doesn't require hard to find monitors and/or expensive video scaler equipment.

iBook G3 is the teardown from Hell - stripped screw

Booting from USB worked after a nvram reset in open firmware. Installed OS9 and the eMac video drivers to solve the 1/4 screen size issue with the OS 9.2.2 drivers. I'm pretty sure this iBook has a replacement logic board that was better than the stock.

    A Classic II/LC III laptop/book….

This is a very interesting project. I've always wondered what this would be like to use.

iBook G3 is the teardown from Hell - stripped screw

Thanks. I had this thing apart once already and now I'll have to do it again. Sigh...

iBook G3 is the teardown from Hell - stripped screw

Looks like I'll be doing something similar with my iBook. Just picked it up from eBay. Booted fine and ran for a couple of hours before the drive died. How did you get the OS installed? Did you have to image the drive or did you use the optical drive?

    No programming categories?

I recently created yet another Wordle clone in HyperCard. It's up in archive.org along with a game I write last year for the Royal Game of Ur.

Recapping a PowerBook 180c LCD - parts list

Luke from Console5 didn't think the two power board caps needed replacing as they are unlikely to fail. Yes, they are polymers.

    No programming categories?

I've been working with HyperCard and a little with Think C. HyperCard is my go-to for developing applications for 68K Macs. Although I know C, I'm new to using the ROM toolbox routines.

Recapping a PowerBook 180c LCD - parts list

Corrected in the sense that I did not measure them correctly the first time. Console5 created a kit with tantalum caps with the correct values. I would take a look there.

    I’ll check it over again.

    PowerBook 1xx Series Battery Case

Same power supply. I get about 7.8v. The cells all measure about 1.5v and together 6.2v. I've left it charging for three, seven, and twelve hours with similar results.

    PowerBook 1xx Series Battery Case

Well, after three epic YT livestreams, I have a battery assembled and ... it only holds a charge for 20 minutes. I've check the voltage when fully charged - 6.2 volts (analog meter so it's not very accurate) and individual cells are 1.5 volts. I get the same voltage reading when it's...

The Adventures of a Timid Tinkerer aka LC475 upgrades

I don't have a hot air station so I use the snip it in half and deconstruct it from the top down technique. I tried the unsolder each side and gently lift technique and had less success.

Totally understand. You do need to flash it which requires a $10 tool. I haven't taken the time yet.

    Efficient web-based classic Mac emulator

This is very cool. I used to use macintosh.js but found it too much of a resource hog.

The Adventures of a Timid Tinkerer aka LC475 upgrades

Awesome to hear from another retro user! I was using an older V5 SCSI2SD but found the setup and management too much work. I've switched to using BlueSCSI exclusively having sold the SCSI2SD adapter. The BlueSCSI firmware is improving. There is a beta release that just dropped that has a 10%...
