    PowerCD problem / fix

Thanks for posting this. I’m going to try it with my PowerCD, which was displaying the same issue. It’s had me stumped for a couple years.

Apple eMate 300 Expansion Module (Open Source / Open Hardware Project)

Oops. Just saw Mikeyy00’s reply regarding NCX. I’ve recently taken over management of the Newton Research site from the developer (Simon Bell) and have access to his archive of old software releases and source.

Apple eMate 300 Expansion Module (Open Source / Open Hardware Project)

Newton Connection for Mac OS X (NCX) works over serial and ethernet under Snow Leopard and later. I can probably dig up an older version that work under Tiger and Leopard. I use an FTDI serial to USB adapter cable for both my eMates and MP2x00 devices.

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

In other news, I just realized why I never got very far tinkering with my TechSteps … they all came with 240v adapters and I didn’t get around to digging a compatible 120v version out of my bins. For completeness sake, does anybody have a spare 120v TechStep adapter to trade for a 240v?

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

I hadn’t looked at my copies of volume 2 and 3 for a very long time and this discussion got me wondering if they were water damaged as well … fortunately, they’re in near perfect condition. Whew.

Flashing green light only sign of life

I would suggest contacting Frank Gründel of PDA-Soft. He has written a number of Newton-related disassembly and repair tutorials and has probably taken apart, upgraded, and repaired more eMates than nearly anyone else on the planet. https://www.pda-soft.de/en/email/email.html He’s also very...

Flashing green light only sign of life

The charging status light should not be blinking. I’m not sure what that might indicate, perhaps a short or failure in the charging circuit or the temperature sensor built into the battery. Normally, the light would either be orange (indicating that the battery is being charged or cannot be...

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

Somehow, I have managed to accumulate three TechSteps over the years, but only a small assortment of different ROM cartridges. CPU Tests Vol. 1, v. 1.1.1 (x3) SCSI HD Tests, v. 1.0 (x2) However, I also have a pair of ROMs with simple typewritten labels: CPU Tests #188 SCSI HD #188 Has anyone...
