Rebuilding the ComputerLab from spare leftovers and scrap . . .

Found a mid-teardown pic of the corner with bookcase support for full length shelf on desk end of room. Desk's re-positioned under the curvacious upper layer. Rack's still in place, desk belongs along wall in between. Here's where I reached my decision point, Radius StudioArray test fail...

Rebuilding the ComputerLab from spare leftovers and scrap . . .

Thanks! I'll try to find some before pics today, maybe you'll find those useful as well. I figured documenting my wood butchering might be helpful. I also do fine woodworking, I'll post examples of furniture building, two of them were underneath the raised section, one will be heading back.

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

You nailed it, trace paths would be impossible to overcome. In an analog system with few traces it would be one thing I guess. The good thing about a surface mount bodge is that the conversion frees up the entire trace side for its contorted flip-flopping. < tangent > It hasn't, but it sits...

Rebuilding the ComputerLab from spare leftovers and scrap . . .

Forgot to mention that the point of the exercise is to make the room useful for the 7-24 months I'll be here without spending much real money. I have a lot of lumber, plywood, cutoffs and scrap squirreled away in the walk in closet and other hidey holes. Wanna use as much of it up as I can so it...

Rebuilding the ComputerLab from spare leftovers and scrap . . .

I've mentioned the flood that ruined all the carpet in my ground floor apartment here and there. In the show your desk thread I documented some of the in process changes to what remained of the setup. Here's the low rent rebuild, sans the nice seven foot bookcases that supported what I'm...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Just noticed I ran the SIMMs right through the adapter in that sketch. OOPSIE! edit: just checked, I didn't do that, did you edit it like that? < tangent > Cool looking setup for the -SE40- are you planning an LCD? All I saw was that one pic. If you wanna wade through some awful .TXT...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

No worries about breaking the solder joints, the printed supports would be installed before soldering with good contact. Mounting screws are smaller diameter than the holes in the SIMM's for finagle factor. Holes in SIMMs can be drilled out to larger diameter if necessary or advisable overall...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Thanks, it's been a long time coming! No need for slotting in config above, or maybe I don't understand your question? I've been looking for my SIMMspender project box to no avail, but I just developed a suspicion about where it might be now that I stopped thinking about it. I have one very...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Got a pic? My LCIII is out on loan . . . forever it seems. :( Quadra 630 project predates Section 8 AWOL MIA period and Quadra 605 riff was after I popped back in, but predates general availability of filimant printing technology. Switching the design up for SMT bodge of SIMMs/Adapter...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

If you're concerned about height, the SIMMs can be soldered directly to the adapter. 😉

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Is the LCIII SIMM oriented straight up or angled? SIMMspender above does exactly what you're suggesting in my target machines.

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

SIMMsppender can be extended to left or right using a modified 72pin form factor. ;) OMG, I so wish I had my Quadra 630 board to do this. It should have the full memory ceiling, greater than the two SIMM Slotted DOS boards when I get done with it. 🤪

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Very cool. Love your incredible research results. I've had some trouble describing this setup to you in words, so did a sketch this morning. Don't know if it'll fit in the LCIII, but Quadra project might be worth a look? SIMMspender is the inverse of a SIMMsaver. It consists of a passive...

What are your vintage grail items?

Wow! What a great story. Are you still working at Goddard or elsewhere for NASA? I wonder how many IIfx were scattered about the agency? A VERY cool customized case IIfx that a Mission Specialist used popped up somewhere or other fairly recently. What a gem, I snagged every pic available of it...

What are your vintage grail items?

It's truly a thing of beauty, no? Nope, never seen this unicorn nor heard tell of anyone hoarding one, but I have collected quite a few pics from many angles. I think I may already have posted too many in progress and Hack Proposals I think? I'd love to document this masked/secret/stealth...

What are your vintage grail items?

Eleanor's sitting proudly on its customized, primo spot the AppleDisplayUnit™ . . . . . . but with the Portable's lid open you can't see the worm logo on its NASA property tag. 😐 edit: TEASE! :ROFLMAO:

What are your vintage grail items?

WOW! Nice thread, but could use a bit of refinement? "Holy Grail" would be the unattainable or near-unobtanium: quest for the real deal - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. "Eleanor" would be the object of insane desires, but something one might actually get their hands on: Gone in Sixty...

You really know you love your LCIII when you replace the 4MB onboard memory chips with 8MB replacements. Runs faster than those very cool sneakers. Nice! :D

    Go-To Apple ADB Keyboard

Here's the one that rocks my mechanical KBD loving world in pre-ADB beige: Here's the new playstation under construction with the Drexel branded Plus and beige goodness: Posting this because my Platinum ADB version is stored away while I rebuild the old setup without the tall bookcase...

    Go-To Apple ADB Keyboard

I have the KBD from the IIgs on hand for fiddling with equipment. Great feel/tiny footprint on the bench. Like as not I use the AppleDesign for its very long straight cable on my KVM setup. It's not nearly as bad a folks make it out to be, but not all that great either. NOT a fan of the AEKs...
