    100-series interconnect cables

Keep us posted! I'm curious about compatibility. If we (someone) does move ahead on a new replacement assembly, it would be good to confirm my completely wild guess. ;)

    100-series interconnect cables

I *believe* the 140/145/145B/170 ones are interchangeable, and the 160/165/180 ones are interchangeable. The relevant difference being a 60 position connector / cable vs 72 respectively. Some photos for comparison: I've done some very casual looking into creating new assemblies, but...

    PB160 Display Recapping Woes

That the drivers for the bottom half of the display are not engaged is definitely a panel issue - do you happen to have a photo of the rework you did? This recapping can also be tricky due to the amount of leaking from the caps and how extensive the spread can be, and thorough (and careful)...

Query: Who Here Has Used DaVinci?

We have been teaching Resolve to our A/V students in the college program I teach in for the past 2 or 3 years... I don't teach those classes myself, but my understanding is that it's 'better' than Adobe Premiere we moved from. Our A/V prof, a seasoned industry pro, swears by it, and our students...

    68k Mac Prices from Yesteryear

Getting Macs for free from the local university while I was a student is how I started my collection back around 2000. Faculty were putting them outside their offices for garbage collection - I basically got blanket permission from Facilities to pick up any ones I wanted, saving them the...

Recapping PowerBook 100 Series 7.5v 2A AC Adapter

I haven't, as I was seeing exactly what you're seeing around the web. I suppose you could though, the Service Guide (https://vintageapple.org/macbooks/pdf/APPLE_MACINTOSH_SERVICE_GUIDE_VOL2_1992.pdf) says a good adapter reads between 7.5V and 7.9V.

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

Same, but I've seen some pretty surprising improvement after conditioning the batteries with Battery Amnesia: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/batteryamnesia

Envisio driver needed for Powerbook 100 external video card

Perhaps this is the one: https://vintageapple.org/macdrivers/video/eve.software.hqx EDIT: Aww... nm. It's the EVE030 driver....

    Recapping Portable power supply

I don't remember ever seeing a video of recapping a M5136 specifically, but there are a few vids showing how to get into that style of adapter: The 'vise' method (this is the method I use): The 'screwdriver' method:

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

I think the duct tape should be okay there. Not sure about the magnet. Does the platter spin? These old PB drives are notorious for failing, and in a variety of ways. I had a Connor just like this fail in a 170 some time after I repaired it. A bunch of others just... died. Most of the drives in...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

Any magnets should remain in place, unless something has happened to the magnet, in which case you could try to repair it but it would be a temporary fix. There are other reasons the hdd might be having issues - including sticky bumpers - what is the brand of the drive?

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

There are a few stl's out there you could use or alter; some people have had success using a nicd battery pack or aa cells (I've repacked batteries using 10 cells like the originals did) - if you don't have an original pack to salvage the terminal strips from, you will need to devise something...

Urgent help needed for my Powerbook 170!!!

I'm not aware of any ethernet solutions either... but there have been a few swings at a wifi-based internal modem replacement, both modem emulation and localtalk (https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/powerbook-1xx-wireless-modem.36932/...

Support for PPP in The Old Net WiFi modem

He's not really offering support at the moment. It seems he didn't quite appreciate how offering something like this for sale comes with a whole ton of additional obligations, specifically support. He's restricted the Discord, and just doesn't to have time / energy to provide the level of upkeep...

    Induction Soldering

Hakko has a couple videos showing some examples: I think if you watch earlier Louis Rossman videos (I know, yawn) or Northbridge videos, they also use bent tips quite a lot, so you might get a sense of use. Try it out and see how it feels - all really depends on what works for you.

    Induction Soldering

For me, at least, I find conical tips least useful since I'm rarely trying to apply heat to a single fine point, I'm usually trying to spread heat across pins / pads, or to pin and its via pad, or I'm wanting to 'carry' solder or apply it generally to a pad. So chisel, bent, and hoof. For me...

    Can you see it?

Thanks! I assume it just lifts up, but I'm not familiar with this particular accelerator. But yeah it's the first thing I'd isolate for troubleshooting. @Bolle - you made a recreation of the Performer and have some familiarity with this card... any insights?

That's a new one to me... Share a pic of the logic board? (Also, this thread properly belongs here: https://tinkerdifferent.com/forums/compact-macs.34/)

Old Net WiFi modem and ZTerm - not responding

Are you able to hit the web server? Perhaps not since you've reset it. Yeah, resetting usually works so your experience is interesting. Reset it again? Also, I've found it can be finicky about the order of things... so try resetting / restarting the modem first, connecting it to the iici, then...
