Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

Indeed, just after the hardware mod. The firmware ran fine =) Thank you very much for the tips, I will work through them and disassemble and clean the whole unit thoroughly! :D

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

The problem first appeared while running a melw Type D firmware and since then I reflashed to a more current melw firmware. I have not flashed back to a stock firmware in regards to this problem (I did before for other reasons sometimes). I reformatted the SD card several times and the device...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

I have something new to report: As a reminder: My unit, type D, custom melw firmware turned black and unresponsive. Just able to turn on/off but nothing else. Pretty sure it's not the firmware's fault. Apparently the capacitor drain takes very long on my type D. More then a week. I left the...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

If you don't get such a photo, I recommend scrolling to the photos here. I know one user moved the socket from the back to the front and that post might include the needed infos.

That's a very good point. Let rephrase it to "maximum usable resolution, given the current boundaries" :D

I have that issue too, but I accepted it, because it's part of the secret sauce. Being zoomed out fully makes it such that you use the full sensor surface for the scanner and such that you have the best possible resolution for the setup. But yes, depending on what you scan, it's sad that the...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

Mine is in more. One image out of focus, sorry. What I did: remove the new lens and lock ring. Take the prolongation and the original female socket. Take grip gloves. I really don't know the English word. They would translate to Farmer's Gloves if I apply my mother tongue here. And then force...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

Meanwhile once it started again, after resting for multiple days. This is awesome, and makes me way less concerned. My type D is unable to quickly drain it's capacitors it seems. Being not connected to power for a few hours and pressing in the power button for 30 s doesn't seem to drain it on...

I will try those points, thank you very much for sharing =)

That gives me hope, thank you =) So far, waiting without power did not yet do the job, but I will keep trying. Also I might redo all the ribbon cable connections. I am sure these are all fine, but just to rule them out. EDIT: - I re-fit all the ribbons (they look A-OK) - The unit behaves the...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

After another scan (successful) I turned the scanner off. Now it won't "start" anymore: - White Power LED goes on, but no screen, and motor won't initialize - If I attempt to re-flash, it doesn't fetch the firmware and doesn't delete it not the spare folder. - I can turn off the device by long...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

I finally went and hardware modded my Type D! I used Deano's 3D printer parts and his instructions. I printed in Resin and had to re-drill the holes at the 7 mm spacer. Also I would not recommend heat, when removing the stock lens from the glue dot. My cam assembly was super thermoplastic and...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

I think stock D's just record super 8 at 840x624 and artificially blow it up to a higher resolution for the sharpening processing. You would want to lower the stock lens down or change the lens for 0dan0's one to yield sharpness beyond that initial resolution.

Thank you very much! I confirm that it's working great on my Hardware Version D. Fat32 formated Kingston 16 GB card, class 10. The OSD flickers a tad now and then, but it's not bad at all. The glitches in the OSD are independent on whether I record or not. The recordings turn out very good.

From my limited insight you toss the letter. You go for the first three digits instead. There are dumps of all four stock firmwares anyways. You can't screw up.

Thanks a ton Sir! :" I did not find it, because when skimming through the 30 pages, I thought 143 is just about a Version 7.7 release post. I think though the importance of pinning such a post and Mac84 updating the instructions on his page...

Hacking the Kodak Reels 8mm Film Digitizer (New Thread)

First of all: Big thanks to 0dan0, Mac84 and videodoctor! I write a suggestion: I think it would be of help to newcomers to state in the first post that the Letter in the serial number doesn't do much and that the first three numbers are more important. Also I would argue to stop linking to...
