PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

Had a chance to play around with my TurboFloppy a little bit. As advertised, it mounts 1.4MB HFS disks just fine (even has a custom icon!). 800k HFS disks however not only do not mount, but are completely unrecognized: the drive offers to initialize the disk as 1.4MB. As for PC disks, 1.4MB...

IIfx Parts Machine Repair - RAM, ROM, Power on/off Fixes

@David Cook , I unfortunately learned the hard way about how finicky IIfx RAM SIMMs are to reinstall. I have three IIfxes that I was recapping for someone and had a bit of a fire incident with the first one (an error I will never repeat going forward!). The board is fixable and I can source a...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

I had forgotten about it, but yes, seeing as it came after v1.3.2, 1.3.6 should also work with the HD20 as well.

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

@OneGeekArmy A new feature you might consider is the ability to copy files between images, that would be very useful if you could swing it!

    Jasmine MegaDrive Disk Driver

(Cross-posted from 68kMLA) Hello! I've just acquired a Jasmine MegaDrive with the original manual and disk driver. I've uploaded the driver to the Garden and will be scanning the manual shortly. For anyone with the drive but unable to use it without the driver, now's your chance! This is...

PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

BlueSCSIs are nice, but not everyone has one, and there are a lot of Pluses out there, and many unupgraded SEs and IIs, that people have and want to use, but which require a bridge machine since they don't read 1.4s natively. Having an easy to use and set-up 1.4MB upgrade would be extremely...

PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

Thank you so much! It would be great, especially since it appears to be a pretty bog standard PC floppy drive. I have a TL866 and am definitely planning to dump the ROM.

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

One thing to consider is that technically the rapport et al wasn't designed for system 7, even if it does sometimes work with some coaxing, so it may be prudent to try the SE in System 6 using the same hardware setup to see if that makes a difference.

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

If you look at the version history, complete HD20 support was only added with v1.3.2. That particular version is still lost, but we do have 1.7.1, so I would recommend trying again with that. Remember, 1.7.1 is just a control panel, so just toss that into the System Folder and you should he good...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

PS, I disovered that the same drive mechanism ("BTM-F-660APA2") seems to have been used in a number of Akai music samplers including, at the very least, the Akai S-950. The manual states that it is compatible with both DD and HD floppies, so that's a good sign.

PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

@eric Just got mine in. Before I do any testing, can you confirm the power settings you're using? Mine says 7.5VDC, but doesn't specify polarity or Amps (and of course didn't come with a power brick). I'm assuming center-positive and 1 Amp or so should be fine?

PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

Potential candidates, if any, would be from EA, Microsoft, and Adobe, off the top of my head. But yeah, copy protection on floppies by that point was pretty much done by then. I have no personal recollection of any, but of course there still could have been some outlier.

PLI Turbo Floppy 1.44 for the Macintosh - SCSI Floppy

Just purchased (very reasonably!) a beige PLI Turbo Floppy 1.4, excited to try it out! I just uploaded Turbo Floppy 1.4 Utilities to the Garden (which I'd gotten not too long ago), and there is in fact no driver to be found on the disk.

Mac Crate 40MB External Hard Drive info and repair

Thanks for the clue! Found a list someone made of various 5th stripe fusable resistors, and apparently a gray body with a white (or violet) 5th stripe corresponds to a Vishay fusable resistor.

Mac Crate 40MB External Hard Drive info and repair

Someone on ebay was kind enough to take a photo of the resistor at R4 in their own MacCrate for sale and shared it with me. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble making sense of the stripes. It appears to be Brown-Black-Gold-Gold, which would be 1Ω at ±5%, but there also appears to be a white strip...
